So I just bought this '05 about a month ago and I notice that the car shakes a good amount when the engine shuts off... you can really notice it when your sitting at a stop light and such. Is this normal? Or do I need new engine mounts or what? Thanks all!
Well, it's hard for me to judge from here what a "good amount" is but I'm willing to bet that what you're experiencing is normal. Unless your car has been in an accident, engine mounts should last about 20 years (my guess, not a scientific answer so don't shoot me fellow chatters) or at least outlast the engine. I've never heard of engine mounts going out on a Prius yet (of any generation, even Gen I).
I have seen reports of rough idle and shut down due to fuel system issues (injectors or MAF dirty) but without any DTC to report it would be just guess work. I think normal shut down is smooth, not even noticeable while driving at speed.
Mine does the same, especially the shutdown going into stage 4. It doesn't seem like an issue, I've read others have experienced similar.
i would say sounds normal…especially when its colder outside…our 04 did that all the time…as well as our 09…so unless you have a bad injector or bad gas…the rough idle on shutdown is "normal"…
The engine looks for an easy restart spot. If it does not stop right it pops it over to a new spot. Sometimes it shudders a little. No problem, mine does it about every other time.
