Prius c and German Toyota Yaris Hybrid

    Check the specs for both cars: one is specified for EU application where small cars are the norm for just one vehicle per family where in the US the Prius C is specified as a second car. How about rear brakes? discs or drums? How about 'final drive ratio? Or... Having spent time in EU I observed that they drive over there where we visit over here.
    BTW if you can locate a wrecked Yaris rear disc brakes set in a junk yard I'd be interested in buying and shipping it here. Some of us drive like we are in EU.

    yes i know about that but when you press the EV button so not induce ICE shutdown while driving
    it will cancel EV a lot sooner then with the prius
    if you say you need to stay below the middle then in the prius you could go almost fullout before the EVmode woudl cancel.

    I'm sorry, I'm not following what you are trying to say here.

    The EV Mode button is not useful while driving.

    YES!
    only when your creeping on the parking lot or when your the only person on the road
    otherwise it will auto cancel out of EV-mode the second you press the gas pedal a bit more where with the prius you can press it hard and it wil not kick out of EV-mode that easy

    Oh, is that all. You don't need the EV button to keep the ICE off though. Once it's warned up, if you want the ICE off, the techniques I mentioned before are quite easy, there's no need to even think about the button.

    did you ever drive a prius p2 or p3?
    put that in ev mode with a full battery and warm ice and then we talk ;-)

    Guys... I'm not sure what are you fighting for... I'm yet to write an article about differences between the two (Prius 2011 EU spec VS Yaris Hybrid 2013 EU SPEC). I have both. More than 35000 km in Prius and about 4000 km in Yaris.

    Main differences:
    Yaris - small, efficient, optimised for city driving, less equipped, should look & drive like normal car with automatic drive train. Priced lower than same size / same class Diesel cars (50% of sales in EU).
    Prius - high priced, bigger car saying "I'm a hybrid!". Optimised for suburban traveling. Priced much higher that Toyota Avensis - classic D-segment car in Europe (along with Ford Mondeo and VW Passat).

    Yaris HSD uses smaller 1.5 liter engine (74 HP) and electric MG1/MG2 pair for total output of 100 HP (74 kW).
    Yaris weight less - about 1100 kg while Prius goes up to 1400 kg. Maximum speed is also lower. About 165 km/h (while Prius goes up to 180 kmh). Speed is not electronically limited as in Prius. I managed Yaris to go up to 175 km/h but battery depleted within 50 seconds and speed dropped down to 165 kmh.

    Back to Yaris. Yes. It is much harder to keep it in EV mode. There are two EV indicators. One (small green car with EV inside) is like in Prius. It goes ON when ICE is off and goes OFF when ICE is ON - just like Prius 2012+, CT200h. Prius prior to 2012 used this led to indicate EV mode forced by button.
    To indicate forced EV mode Yaris uses other indicator named EV MODE.

    You can drive in EV mode without engaging ICE to the half of the hybrid zone of HSI (just like in Prius). But it is less powerful in this zone. About 2/3 of the HSI it drops of EV mode. The battery is less powerful and accelerator curves are more like Prius in NORMAL while Yaris is in ECO MODE and more like POWER while Yaris is in NORMAL.
    There is no POWER mode in Yaris.

    Warm up stages are similar between Yaris & Prius with two essential differences:
    1) S0 - ICE does not start within 10 seconds. It wait until car leaves parking place - except when battery is very cold
    2) S0 - ICE does produce usable power. About 6 kW which is enough to drive the car on a small roads

    After warm up Yaris cuts off ICE much more often than Prius. Even when it's cold. It turns ICE off on red lights reducing cabin heating. It waits 2 - 3 minutes. If you still stay it will eventually bring ICE up to warm up cabin but it tries to avoid it when unnecessary.

    Next difference is when battery goes to two bars. Engine will kick in, run very hard (about 6 - 7 kW measured by Torque App) for about 30 seconds and then turn of for next few minutes. When you eventually leave traffic jam and start driving it will refill whole battery within 2 km. Definietly different from Prius which recharges for ages. Harder for battery but much more efficient in city driving.

    Next difference is state of charge. Two bars in Yaris means 30% of SoC. But Yaris still can do 2 km on battery.

    That's in short. There are much more differences but essentialy Yaris is a city optimised drivetrain from Prius gen. 2 with best features of Prius gen. 3.
