I went with 5k on my old car, but decided on 4.5k on the Prius. Couldn't be happier.

Over-time, the 5k slight blue sparkle will slowly increase in 'blueness.' This is something I wanted to avoid, so decided on the 4.5k.

Is this off-topic?...but I've always gone with DDM tuning. My first kit went a strong 1.5 years before I sold the car, and my Prius has run the kit for 6 months with no hiccups.. You can't beat 50$. DDM recently outsourced their parts and work to China though (was in Cali) and rumors are their service and quality has taken a hit. I noticed one of my 4.5k bulbs was yellower than the other...but barely noticeable. Not sure how their customer service is since I've never had to return their product.

An issue I'm having is, the HID bulb is longer than the Halogen in the Prius. And there is a reflector of sorts which bends light to 90 degrees outward. Meaning when I am passing a car on the freeway there is a little glare to a car left or right of me (headed in the same direction)... not sure how to avoid this, but currently looking for shorter bulbs.

Just a quick update. I called XS on Wednesday, and got a replacement ballast in the mail on Friday. Installed it this morning and the light is working perfectly. They even included a prepaid return slip to mail back my defective one. Pretty sweet service!

A really overdue update. I replaced the bulbs inside the headlight housing to a 6000k LED to match the color of the headlights. Here is the before and after.

Here is a sneak peek at the high beams that I am installing this weekend too... :)

They still don't match? What temp is your headlights? I find they're rather difficult to match because a manufacturer's color temp isn't necessarily the same as that of another manufacturer and color temps aren't accurate when it comes to LEDs.

    Wow... for the high-beams?
I've seen ppl using LED's for the foglights, but not that I can recall for high-beams.
    DOT approved?
    Please do tell....

Those highbeams will be strictly for looks, not illumination.

Had some issues with my first shipment from XS, connectors were crap. Drove down to their downtown la office and swapped it out. Been working great for over a year now.

Quick startup, great beam pattern on the prius projectors. I'm still surprised how good the output and cutoff is for a halogen housing. I was driving next to a LED headlight prius and the output was better.

I recently added 6000k Philips LED bulbs to the parking light. I was a little concerned since the philips led is directional (just 12 o clock) but it worked out pretty well. My main concern was color temp match and I wanted a high quality product.

If I were to do it again i would go with these for more omnidirectional light.

Same problem here on the driver's side ballast mounting install. The wires from the ballast to the 2 bricks were to short. The 2 bricks are just sitting on top of the fuse box. I also scratched up the ballast metal housing pretty good trying to wedge it in the small space with the plastic panel. If anyone has a better solution or suggestion I would love to hear it.

I got the same problem, the wire from the ballast to the two little box is too short. I end up taping the ballast on top of the fuse box cover. The passenger side is a little better but need to force the two little box under the coolant container. I look at other xenon kit, their ballast don't have the two little box, it will make the install a lot more easier without the two little annoying box. I want to redo mine if someone had a better idea of a new location for the ballast.

I have a 2013 4 w/Solar. I did not use the harness. I too had difficulties locating suitable placements for all of the little 'boxes'. I wonder if the harness would allow finding a better location to put all of those wires & boxes out of sight. This solution works; but appears to be a bit 'over engineered', and not quite specifically for the Prius as claimed - otherwise there would not be tell-tale clumps of wires crowding the engine compartment by the fuse box.

My xenon kit just arrived and i'm having the same problem, the wires from the ballast to the little box are way too short. I'm too planning to tape it to top of the fuse box if i cant find another location.
By the way, how are you liking the xenon light?

Why is this an acceptable problem? Has anyone complained to the supplier about this issue?

It's acceptable because this is a general fit type kit for many vehicles, not custom for the Prius. For other cars the wire length is adequate.

I just finish talking to the supplier, they said this ballast is a new modification/updated slim ballast and in general this is how the new ballast are being made. For placement of the ballast they mention i do not have to follow their video instruction but find another placement where the wires are able to connect to the existing connector since there is nothing wrong with my ballast.

Well that's just silly. The whole point of the xenonsupply ballast was the video tutorial and the fact that the ballast is hidden away behind plastic panels.

    Might as well shop elsewhere...

But they show a video of how it should be installed in the Prius! Didn't they advertise a Prius specific setup on their website? The length of the cord should be adequate for the Prius, if people are going to follow the video tutorial. Otherwise there's no benefit of this supplier over the next.

When HID aftermarket kits started becoming reasonably cheap in 2006, I installed a $300 5000K Mccullough Kit into the 2006 Mazda 3 that I had leased. It also had projector lens similar to the prius.

Unfortunately, one of the bulbs started to become slightly bluish after a few months of use, occasionally one ballast wouldn't fire and eventually the other bulb failed. I finally removed the kit and decided not to bother with aftermarket stuff. Another thing is...the alternator on the mazda 3 died a year later costing $800 dollars to fixed. I suspect that the initial high current draw of the HID startup may have caused this but I have no proof; and a lot of HID supporters (including my best buddy) will probably correct me by saying that this type of kit won't fry wires / electronics...but there is no way to prove it does or does not.

I've learned my lesson and will not mess around with lights again. I know it's irrisistable to tamper with them for better vision / looks but I find that the Prius's halogen projector headlights give out a good, bright beam already.

I ordered and paid for a XS HID kit on 16 March. The order is still in "processing" status even though XS shows the item to be in stock. I've sent an email to XS asking to clarify what's going on, but in the meantime I'd proceed with caution ordering from this company.

I'll update this post if/when they confirm shipment.
