The SP is just that, SP+TTL. 2013 is coming to an end and next year is when we'll see the 2015 come out late 2014. 2015 will have BIG changes too.
I have a Prius and love it, but for $31K, there are about 20 other cars I'd buy before a Prius. I paid $21k for my 2010 II, and that was a decent value, but $31K for ANY Prius is just crazy. 10K in fluff that's an almost instant total loss in value ? The Prius is a GREAT $20-21K car .... It's a really crappy $30-31K car. I also have a 2012 Mazda 3i Touring Skyactiv with sunroof and Bose that cost me $18K, it gets an average of 38 mpg calculated in my wife's driving, and I've gotten as much as 47 Mpg on an all highway trip. That's very close to Prius MPG, and it's a hell of a lot more fun to drive than ANY Prius, especially a $31K Prius. I'm seriously thinking about getting another Mazda 3 right now. You can get about $4K off sticker with the deals right now. With the mileage that these Skyactiv 3's are getting ..... The Prius is making less and less sense to me. Don't get me wrong, the Prius is a great car, but it's a great $20,000 car .... No more. And it's about as exciting to drive as watching paint dry. REV
You should be under $29k, per truecar website. Try it and see if you can find a better price, then get your dealer to match it.
Thanks for the suggestions guys!! I kinda agree to some extent on the $31K...what revhigh eluded to. I saw a dealer advertising a P3 with Solar for $23K. I believe it was a red or a black/winter grey and possibly a demo. Now, if I could get a new P3 in BP with solar for close to $23K, say $23.5, I may pull the trigger. When I called, they said that the $23K was without the 0% financing, to get that, you have to pony up $1700+, that brings it to $24.7K + TTL, I'm now looking at close to $26.5K out the door. Decisions, decisions. Maybe they will make some adjustments since 2013 is coming to an end and the 2014's will be here shortly.
I drove in my friends Honda Accord loaded EX-L loaded the sticker was 28K. The dealer discounted to pay the sales tax. Nice and heavy, smooth ride. It costs less than my Prius and drives a whole lot better. Grant it your not getting 50 MPG but a solid car. 2014 Honda Accord Coupe - Options and Pricing - Official Honda Site I like my Prius but it is a expensive econo box.
Exactly ... With the current crop of 40mpg cars that really get 35-36mpg overall, and 40+ on the highway, the 44-45mpg overall of the Prius is far less attractive, especially when you compare it to the handling of a Mazda 3, and a nicely loaded 2013 Mazda3 is now about $19K. Of course the new 2014 M3's aren't discounted anywhere near as much. REV
Get a leftover Mazda3 I Touring Hatchback with a sunroof and Bose (MSRP $23,300) for $19.5K, and have $7K left over for gas money .... It'll take 10 years to break even with the gas savings of a Prius for the extra $7K in cost. REV
In answer to the OP's first question, I think that is a pretty decent price for a package IV with a sunroof and the extras. I really like my package IV and while some would rather put their $30,000 somewhere else, that is their choice. Mine was to get a very fuel efficient car, with low cost of ownership, and a low polluting vehicle that would seat 4 adults comfortably (especially as my two kids grow up into adults). This car has met my expectations and I would do it again in a second (although I may be tempted into a package 5).
I have a model IV with solar roof and frankly for the money you can get a better car . I like my Prius but after driving my friends Accord which costs Less and has more options I'm thinking the Prius is overpriced. The Prius is reliable and economical and that is what sold me. Next car may be bigger
My solar Four Plus Performance stickered at $37,417 ;-) I think I paid $34,417 for it. 3k off seems like a decent price for that '13 solar Four. If you like it and got the bucks, buy it Mike Mobile on my SGH-i717
Our 2011 Solar Four was heavily discounted by the time we found it on leap day 2012. At just under 30k (by a few bucks only) I felt it was overpriced. On the other hand, my wife enjoys driving it, loves the leather seats, sunroof, JBL sound system and the great mpg that this car achieves. She's very happy with it and we do use it for long trips. Have found it to be quite capable in all situations, plus, it has been bullet proof. It's not a supercar, but it is a super fuel efficient car that averages 53-54 mpg and has plenty of interior room. Is it worth the price we paid? In this circumstance I'd have to say yes. Are there better cars out there for this price? Might be, but really depends on what you value.
When I was looking, it was between the Prius and the Accord. Then the Michael Bolton commercials came out and the Prius won.
__________________________________________ I agree, I paid $18,500 OTD for a used 2010 Prius II in early 2012, it has already depreciated $3,000 if I tried to sell it today. Funny thing, my 2007 Toyota Prerunner I swapped for this Prius still goes for over $18,500 and more. Makes no sense to me! I guess it's supply and demand in a red neck area of the world I live in.
