10,000 mile service at 2,000 miles...

I agree: 1 year = oil change. Ask the dealer to give you a change at cost. A compromise would be to wait till you have 5000 miles on it.

 

Ditto, follow the owner's manual. 10,000 miles or 1 year = oil change. Seems like a waste but I wouldn't take a chance on a brand new car. If dealer won't do it, take it somewhere else.

 

i would do it, even if i had to pay. sitting around through temp changes has to create a lot of condensation i would think.

 

Funny thing is the Prius v's sold in Canada have slightly different schedule. 1st oil change at 8000km/6mos (5000 miles). 2nd at 1 year 16,000km/10,000 miles, then once a year or 16,000km/10,000 miles after that.

In other words, compared to US v's, one extra oil change, at the 6 month point.

 

I changed mine at somewhere around 1k. I am a PM guy and keep em 10 years. And yes my dealer tried to talk me out of it but I insisted that was what I wanted and it could count as one of my free services.

I've read somewhere that some people recommend doing the first oil change at 5000 miles, then do the 'free one' at 10,000. Any thoughts on that? For the record.... no city stop and go traffic, no harsh dusty conditions. If the car comes out of the garage it is at least a five mile drive to anywhere.

 

Usually old people who remember the bad oil of the 60's. These are not the 60's, it can go 10,000 miles.

 

I could be wrong, but isn't the oil change interval every 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first? Ryan was proper in asking the 1 year service be performed.

This is reasonable. Some of us like to do the first oil/filter change before 1000 miles to rid break-in fod. Much like some changing the transmission fluid at or before 30,000 miles. Opinions will vary like people, but early first fluid change is wise.

 

My take: whatever the service interval, the time/distance stipulations start from the date of purchase, not the date of manufacture.

Our car, purchased new, apparently languished on dealership(s) lot for well over a year. It had something like 10 km on the odometer when we purchased it.

 

I think though with 1900 miles over 14-15 months means the car was started and driven periodically, but without the benefit of the ICE fully warming up. Ryan would likely be okay under warranty if he didn't do anything, but I would have asked for the same to done as a condition of purchase.
