I wish the stupid airbags weren't in the seats - then I could replace them with some Brides.

I'm going to try that washer thing...I think it's exactly what I need. Maybe it's my size/body type but I feel like if I put my seat back far enough to have the leg room I need that I'm leaning forward to grab the wheel. Maybe this will correct some of that.

What I would like to do minus the $600 junkyard special.

Lexus IS250/350 heated/cooled seats. Just would need custom seat brackets fabbed up.

I need more support, don't need heat, necessarily.

These seats are super comfy and offer lots of support...they ADDITIONALLY are heated and/or cooled. My ex had an IS350 - took it on several long hour trips with out any discomfort. Similar seats in the RX series SUV.

As I posted in JustDidIts other thread, you should know that "that washer thing" could present a serious consequence in terms of safety. The seat is the only thing keeping you from flying out of the car in a rear-end collision, and if you reduce the strength of the seat-to-body connection, well... it's your safety... but I wouldn't do this to my car.

At the very minimum, you should be using grade 8 hardware for this. Even better would be to use large fender washers in place of the smaller machine washers. Best would be to have a proper bracket fabbed up, but I doubt this has been done yet.

I had a Recaro Specialist M in my first-gen Prius and loved it. Fit like a charm (I'm 6'2" and 180#). Dropped me down about six inches and back about the same. Couldn't ask for a comfier seat; super adjustable and it was $700 or so, plus $150 in brackets, wiring, etc. to get it to bolt-in using the same bolt pattern as the factory seat. Wedge Engineering brackets are the way to go if you're going to put in a Recaro or a Sparco. If you're in the SF Bay Area, Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley has a great selection of Recaros to try before you buy and they'll either order you the parts or put them in for you. I did it myself, and they even told me how (hint: disconnect the aux battery before you pull the wiring harness under the seat or you'll set off the airbags!)

    as someone pointed out
stacked washers like that is hugely dangerous, and could easily pop in a collision

if you are going to do this, use thick wall pipe (as opposed to tube) as you can with grade 8 fasteners and adequate bearing washers. at the end of the day its both the seat equipment and the lack of adjustment that makes them uncomfortable.

the Lexus seats seem comfortable, I can remember Volvo seats, specifically those from C30 as being the most comfortable in the industry, but I have a simple 97 Ford that has seats so much better than the Prius Ive been tempted more than once :)

Not to derail but is there any chance that the Gen III seat would fit? Are they any more comfortable? Only prius I've been in is mine.

if you got enough $$, anything could be made to fit. there is no bolt in solution. i think the corolla base is really the best idea yet; too bad its such a pita.

I, too, am very interested in a different seat. I have a 2007 Prius & the lack of lumbar support is getting quite uncomfortable. Any options / suggestions are appreciated. It has come to a point that I don't want to drive more than 20-30 mins in my jalopy.
