I would replace the word "abrupt" with barely noticeable. Regarding brakes, we don't use the brakes. Seriously, no foundation regarding the the brakes comment which are the same on the regular Prius.
coming directly from a 2008, it felt exactly the same to me. maybe the gen III was smoother? i've never heard anyone here complain about it. you wonder where they get this stuff.
You know how they got it to do that? I bet they were doing 50+MPH in EV mode and let it run out of EV allocation.
Would only be a concern to me if the Prius Plug In had a nuclear reactor for propulsion and it had a "shudder" (re: the movie "The China Syndrome).
Once in a while, just after start up, when backing up and touching the brakes, I'm finding them VERY touchy. This is a regular Prius, but I'd speculate the brakes are similar. The first time I noticed this was backing up while parallel park, in preparation for exiting the spot. I touched the brakes and thought I'd hit the car behind us. This touchy brake behaviour persists until you start rolling forward, then it's gone.
It could just be coincidental, but on a Prius, from 0-8MPH, only the brakes - and not engine braking - are involved in stopping the car. I've noticed the differences when slowing using only engine braking and then hitting the 8MPH limit. There is a definite catch to the brakes. So I would also suspect the same thing happens "in reverse". Some people might not notice the difference at all if they use a heavier foot on their brakes.
i haven't noticed this. are they a little more touchy than regular brakes? maybe, but no different than my 04 and 08. if anything, i would say the 'creep' is a bit too powerful.
