    I'm a Realtor and home inspectors around here won't check home AC's during the winter because it can be harmful to run them while that cold. This isn't the case with car AC's?

    I believe if it's too cold, to protect itself, the A/C won't even come on.

    when you set vents to windshield+foot, AC turns on automatically. nothing bad will happen in cold weather with it, though you might get frostbite :p

    So you're saying it's not like a home AC where it is bad to run it under about 55 F?

    Every vehicle that I've ever driven that was equipped with A/C wouldn't allow the compressor to operate below a set outside temperature determined by the mfgr, usually in the 35F range. It just won't come on. I'm certain our PHV is the same. The light may be on, but damage to the compressor is almost impossible due to cold temps.

    I am curious as to the amount of kw to charge a 'normal' depleted battery. Has anyone plugged in a Kill-a-Watt meter during a complete recharge? If the PIP battery is 4.4 kw, is it really only using about 3 kw(+/-) to get its' estimated 11 mile range? Thanks.

    It's about 2.7 - 2.8 or so to complete charge. The extra battery charge is used when EV mode is depleted and you are on HV like a regular Prius. People have read at meter, but I do not have one, so it's more of a guess for me. I'm sure someone with a meter will chime in.

    Thanks!!.....just the data points I was looking for. I have called Toyota directly, multiple dealers and sales folks.....no one knew the answer.... should have come to PriusChat first.....;>)

    Retired, I'm not sure what you mean by your second sentence about HV mode? The battery SOC goes between 18 and 23% or so in HV mode. That's a 5% range, not an extra kWh.
    To the original question, around 30-35% I the battery is reserved as a buffer for longevity.

    I believe that 23%-18% or so is going from 6 bars to 2 bars in HV mode. But it can also go up to 8 bars or about 25%.

    I'm not very good at trying to explain things, I just tried to let him know that after all your EV charge is gone the car operates like a regular Prius. Sorry! did not mean to confuse things.

    This is very interesting.
    Did you have the means to check the 85% full?
    Does Charge Point can give charge duration for each charge?
    Could be that the station stops charging before it is full (due to lower demand by the car charger towards the end)?

    I have a ScanGauge and SOC % is what I routinely monitor.

    ChargePoint only provides duration info for overall connection, not draw times. It does show current draw rate via the app.

    And it is the car itself the stops recharging at 85%. That is not controlled by the charging-station.
