I wouldn't buy one!! I have one its been about a year now I loved it WELL the body is starting to melt yes melt, I've researched this and I've found about a dozen cases after about a year. Toyota isn't standing behind it they say it is due to an outside element. My car has low mileage and is never parked by glass windows which was there first excuse. They also said maybe it was someone with a magnifying glass or a hot hose. Please cars shouldn't melt I do not live in a very hot climate. I am still trying to get this resolved but I believe Toyota has a problem with the prius melting and they will not take responsibility. I'm sure there will be a recall eventually Good Luck I'm getting rid of mine even if they fix it as I don't trust it wont keep happening

Are you after 7 seats? If you are it has no real competition in its class. We're near Dandenong (Melbourne) and swear by ours.

sorry I don't know why it downloaded so many images it is four areas. I would really like to try to find out how many people this happens to. I have found about a half dozen so far. I've found we are all getting the same answer and unfortunately a few do park near glass which shouldn't make a difference but I've found two of us that do not there is obviously a problem and I think to many people are giving up and excepting it. We can not let the Toyota Giant get away with not standing behind there product a car shouldn't melt. If it should they should warn us about it before we pay over $30K for the vehicle.

It appears a heat source was applied to the areas affected. I haven't had any problems and it get warm here in SC. Had to tint my windows to help control the heat inside.

Anything inside melting? That's where I would expect to see some plastic warping with high heat on the car.

exactly but there wasn't other than the normal daily sun which shouldn't melt the car the inside doesn't get hot thats why I think its a defective material. It is a sad day when we think we should except that your car can melt in the sun. I can buy a cheap object in a store and if it doesn't hold up return it but for some reason the car melting no one thinks its there problem. Unless there is someone with a blow torch or I'm parking next to fire it shouldn't melt. I wish it was vandalism as I have insurance. It is on four different spots on the car

You got to wonder if someone with a magnifying glass decided to do some mischief on your car!

Thanks for the uploads and wow. It should take a tremendous amount of heat to do that sort of damage. I can't think of how this could happen.

    Thoughts:

Look at the area you park in. Look around for a shiny convex (curved towards the car) surface. Could that concentrate rays?

Did it happen over time or just one day?

The pitting near the door handle looks like some sort of acid rain just from the droplets shape. Or bird droppings which can erode the paint surface too.

Is there anything common to the color that is common to all those reporting problems? All dark? I live it a relatively moderate climate that gets up to 102F/38.8C on occasion and I bought a white car because white reflects where black absorbs.

Is it possible that the motor for the rear wiper overheated? It appears to be right under that area.

    Thanks,
    Dan
