Hi all. I'm new here. I've decided to pickup a prius c and actually had settled on a new 2. Then in doing a little research i found a used 2012 model with 15.5k mi for $16.9k VIN: JTDKDTB32C1021131 Anyway it seems like a decent deal but I am a bit confused. The dealer site calls it a prius c 1, a vin search calls it 'base', the sticker on the window at the dealership calls it a 2, it has the options of a 3, and the wheels of a 4. Maybe i'm overthinking this, but buying used there is a question in the back of my mind wondering if there is some frankenstein garage that threw this thing together with spare parts lying around. Also the car has a cracked front bumper u cant see in the pics but the crack runs along the entire length of the inside of one of the lights below the headlights. Looks like they had a very minor collision there - carfax said no accidents. So if anyone knows if there are any components behind that bumper i should be concerned about that would be helpful - inverters or whatnot. Thanks! Looking forward to being part of this community.
Oh i cant post links yet but if you google the vin you should see it listed on a dealer website toward the bottom of page 1 results
You can tell if it's a C1 if the rear seats are not 60/40 split and the front seat head rest is not adjustable. It's not uncommon for dealerships to have "special value" vehicles that have upgrades from a higher trim model in one fashion or another. Also, ask if the upgrades are OEM or aftermarket. Aftermarket upgrades usually decrease value so that's important to know from a consumer standpoint (yes, you read that right...they may try to lead you to believe otherwise). Ask them to pull the bumper and check for damage to other components and ask them to replace the bumper at their expense if you're interested (not repair it or charge it back to you on the out the door cost). If there's no damage they should list that on the contract. They'll either blow you off, or oblige....can't tell until you ask. If they want to sell it that bad they'll work with you. And make sure the factory warrenty is covered at no cost...whatever it is...60K? Here's the link to the car on behalf of the OP: 2012 Toyota Prius For Sale - JTDKDTB32C1021131
For roughly 1500-2k more you should be able to get a brand new C2, the 0% financing alone should make up the difference in used, and no sketchy frankenstien garage/cracked bumper concerns
My car is just the same as that one. Here in Puerto Rico the trim 2 & 3 basically not exist, it's a hybrid between 2 & 3 (hence why Fog lights no works in mine even I had the OEM stalk and OEM fog installed). Use the standard radio, 60/40 folding seat, adjustable headrest, rear bumper protector, cruise control, even the same tires and wheel set with lock nuts.
sounds and looks like a c3 with alloy wheel option if you can live with the crack and also get low APR financing, sure go for it...if not, then don't do it
We don't go by the same packages in Canada but isn't the keyless start only available on the C 3 and 4 ???
Just had my front number off, if lights, signals work its probably OK. I think the bumper cover is even more flimsy than my Gen 2 was.
well, it's not in canada, it's being sold at some honda dealership in south carolina... It has the oem alloys, but no fogs, so I'd just assume it's a C3
and since it has that defect, you can probably use it to your advantage in negotiating with the price more
I'd stay clear of that car. The C1 is supposed to be the "base" model, so if a VIN search shows up as a "base", that's exactly what it is if/when its time to sell it. I've seen a "Today, 1 CAR only" new C1 deal for $16,888 before tax/lic, so I wouldn't be excited over a used C2 for the same price when they retail for about $1,000 more than a C1 new.
