Got a 2010 Prius with about 61000 miles on it. Starting yesterday the check engine light stay on all the time (As soon as I started the car). I tried open and tighten the gas cap but no help and check engine light still stay on all the time. Any idea what could be the problem? Will any ODB scanner able to diagnose the check engine light code or need a specific one? Thanks.
If it is a loose gas cap, it will take the car two or 3 days to turn out the light on it's own. I don't know about ODB scanners, but a Pep Boys will scan your car for codes and I think it's free.
You might get an autoshop to read the codes for you for free. Also the seal on the gas caps can wear out, but get the codes read first and report back...
I disagree with both statements. Any OBD-II scanner should be able to read codes related to the check engine light. I recommend pulling the code and posting it here before doing anything else. Also, I recommend not clearing it just yet. If it is a problem covered by warranty you'll want to keep it there. Avi
Thanks guys. I am going to borrow a ODB II scanner from my friend and hope able to read the codes and report back to here.
