Battery Changes/Replacements

When you cleaned the throttle body did you also clean the MAF or make sure you didn't contaminate it oiling the throttle body? I'm not going to requote Hobbit, but he had an excellent post of how important it is to have a clean the components inside it and how to safely do so. You might have gotten some oil in there too. I did clean the MAF, with alcohol as advised, but then I replaced it with a new one. I only put tiny drops of oil on the valve plate pivot points.

My fuel system checks out good: key on engine running = 50PSI, key on engine off = 47 PSI, 5 minute drop = 49 PSI.

MORE SYMPTOMS
My engine generally stops rumbling if I’m shifted into N or P.

MORE QUESTIONS
1. Could this be a transmission fluid, or transmission gear, or ECM, or wiring problem?

2. If my #1 injector is replaced, is that likely to fix me, even though other cylinders have shown misfire codes, or should all my injectors be replaced?

3. Would a faulty catalytic converter and faulty oxygen sensors be reported in scanning?

 

UPDATE October 23, 2013, GOOD NEWS

Number 1 injector replaced. Codes erased. Drove 52 miles at 64 MPG, no more codes recorded, no check engine light. So at 175,900 miles, and 12 years of age, I’m feeling young, once again. Thanks everybody for your help!

 

My son just had his 2004 HV battery replaced, under warrantee. The problem is that the "new" battery just has a one year warrantee. Is this SOP?

 

Unfortunately, it is true. Toyota only offers a one year warranty on their traction battery replacement.

There are alternatives out there if you can't get the repair done through Toyota by warranty. I believe Dorman is offering a three year warranty on their battery. Dorman recently acquired Reinvolt.

 

However, don't confuse the warranty term with the likely longevity of the traction battery. We can expect a new traction battery to last 8 years or more based upon collective group experience. The used traction battery might last 3 years if you are lucky - or might fail during that period.
