I just bought a Pruis plug-in wanted to know on what upgrades can be done is their a extended to the 11 mile EV mode have now ?
It's not really recommended. You can get an external battery to add range, but it is not going to be plug&play. It will not charge off the SEO charging port, but will need to be charged externally from another plug. It will not accept regen power. What it will do is inject power into your current battery pack to keep it charged longer (like an iPhone battery case). I have one of the first 2012 PiPs and I've done all the research. I too wanted more range on my battery.. but alas I accept my 12-15 mile range. Good for 100% pure EV around your neighborhood or local city. For me.. 50%EV/50%HV on my commute to work.
The best mod is between the steering wheel and the front seat. The driver makes a huge difference. The nature of your commute dictates as well. Use the EV miles for slower city driving (lower than 45 mph). For higher speed, use the gas engine. The goal is to increase efficiency of both fuels (electricity and gasoline). Use the fuel that triumphs over another, depending on the driving speed/condition. If your commute is under 11 miles, use up the EV miles first. There is no point in using gas since you could cover the entire trip with EV.
Someone on here bought one from plugin solutions. He ended up selling the battery pack and the car and bought a Tesla. iPad ? HD
