So I had a 2007 prius package#5 with 190,000 miles. Well, a median curb got in my way while driving and took out a lot of the undercarriage. Insurance is totaling it and going to give me a payoff. I'm not sure what it will be yet. I found a Toyota Certified Pre-Owned 2008 Prius Package #5 with 74,000 miles for sale. So I would basically be taking 120,000 miles off the car, making it a year newer, and getting the benefit of the 160 point inspection and certified pre-owned warranties. How much would you say this would be worth to you?? How much more would you pay for the 2008 vs my 2007??

Doesn't really matter what we think you should pay for it. What is the price of the car? Compare that with KBB and that should bring you closer to your answer. 74k miles on a 2008 anything is pretty great plus the added CPO warranty is very nice. Do you like the color? To my knowledge, nothing much changed from 07-08 so you really aren't losing anything.

Color is the same as my old car. Same package and options. They want $14,800.

That is a pretty great price! I'm showing package 5's in the $16k range on KBB.

I don't see that info. Where are you located? In this area it says $11,300 private party in good condition and $14,700 dealer certified.. I'm not paying $14,700. I only paid $4,000 more than that for my 2007 five years ago.

Not really. If you could take your 6 year old car with 190,000 miles and make it a year newer and take 120,000 miles off of it, what would that be worth to you?? Is that worth $1000, $3,000, $5,000 ???

I would look into other hybrids or pay more for the 2010 model

I suggest you visit kbb.com or edmunds.com to obtain used car price data.

I'm not sure why you would care what other people would pay. The question is, what is this worth to you, since you are the one who will be paying out the $$$$.

One way to think about that incremental value is that a car with 120K fewer miles has a lower probability of needing a new traction battery, inverter, transaxle, engine, or suffering some other major failure. However it is difficult to quantify that unless you have a good idea of the probability of a component failure, and the repair cost of such failure, at 70K miles vs. 190K miles.

What other hybrids would you suggest? Is the 2010 prius that much better? Is it worth the extra bells and whistles

I know what all the sites say. They don't necessarily represent the real world market.. Although EdmundS is pretty good. Im just looking for Opinions. Of course I want the lowest price possible. I don't see value in A lot of things. For example I don't see why a dealer should get more money for a used car vs a private party. Im just seeing what other people think to see if it is Inline with what I think.
