hi all owner of prius c. hi. i'm new here. jz bought a prius c from malaysia.. saw it on youtube about carputer.. did any done this before? just wondering prius c dashboard can fit in any tablet? thanks for sharing. =)
The easiest way would to purchase a "CD" mount for your tablet/smart phone. These slide into the CD slot and give you a holder to position your tablet/phone in front of the existing radio. The Bluetooth feature of the tablet/smart phone works great with the Prius C. Also makes a good GPS navigation system. There are also complete radio replacements with built in Android tablets. Some allow you to detach the tablet and take it with you. There are aftermarket bezels for the C to allow custom insulations of standard Double-D sized radios. A 7" tablet should be a good fit. John
All I wanna know is how long they would last being out in the summer heat? since it seems most of these DIY kits involve hot glow to keep it intact and also the battery of the tablet probably might not be able to keep charge (even if it's plugged in always) in the heat. I'd rather just have my phone/tablet with a mount & bluetooth connectivity (and coming from a car with no bluetooth, GG is the C a jump in technological advancement for me), rather then waste a tablet to fuse into the car.
The CD mount just snaps in, no glue. Car Mount 4 LG Quantum CD Slot Auto Cell Phone Stand | eBay So take the phone or tablet with you when you leave the car. John
The battery still drains.. but really slowly. I've done a 5 hour trip and even while plugged in, it still lasted until the end of the trip. I don't have one with 3g. Just tether phone and use the WiFi. I also don't have it permanently mounted. I can always take it out.
I've been interested in doing this as well. I've been looking at several options for the setup and have about finished finding the sources for parts including a touch screen, raspberry pi as the main system (small lightweight and easy to hide for aesthetic) as well as reverse. My problem I haven't figured out now is how to connect it to the radio via bluetooth (which sure a module will work via usb) however I like having the phone connected as well. I'm left with aux input as an option just trying to avoid extra wires. Any ideas anyone?
