I can't think of anything I want to place in the "secret compartment" which is a pain in the derriere to access. You have to empty out the center console of everything to get to the junk stuffed down there. Where do you put the stuff you removed to get to the stuff you squirrelled away? Imagine if you had to do this while the car is moving.
It's basically useless. I can imagine some individuals having some kind of stash there as alluded to earlier in the thread but for the rest of us, what are you going to do? 20 years ago you might have put spare change for a payphone in there, but who even thinks to use a payphone these days? 25 years ago and it might have been an emergency 20 cents bridge toll. Maybe I should write a letter to myself to read in ten years when I sell the car and put it in there.
You would have to be smuggling something you didn't want immediate or quick access to. Or maybe hide large amounts of cash in there when traveling.
I'd bet money it's just a piece of trim they dropped in there to cover up the bolts holding the center console to the floor.
Haha when I first got in the car, I immediately put my cell in there and it fits perfectly, I assumed that was what it was for. I keep it there so if I need to thumbs up or down a song on Google Music its easy to access and it doesn't slide anywhere
I got some air fresheners and put the extras in the secret compartment so they wouldn't stink up/overpower the car
I am not particularly short, but I would also like the armrest to slide or otherwise extend more forward than it does. When I discovered that it slid forward and decided that I would like it to go even further forward, I wondered if it might be possible to remove the cover, take off the upholstery, extend it somehow, then get it reupholstered. Not wanting to experiment on the one in my car, I thought maybe I’d by a new cover from the parts department and work on that one. Then I could install it and still swap the original back in if the need ever arose. So I checked at the parts window at my dealer, that piece is $150, with no discount for customers who just bought a $23k+ car from them. I’d probably do it for $75, but $150 is a bit too much for an experiment that might fail. (I also attempted to find an online parts source, and found a couple that seem to offer OEM parts at a discount. But the ones I found do not have a parts diagram that shows that particular part.)
I got too used to the normal armrest position before I figured out it could slide forward, don't use the forward position at all. Never considered the little slot next to the emergency brake a change tray, but my flashlight fits perfectly in it. I use the small tray on the dash in front of the steering wheel to hold change temporarily, but make sure not to leave any there since it's in plain sight. Hidy hole under the armrest is much smaller than what I am used to. You could keep some spare cash, or your insurance card, or other very small objects there, but I'm too used to other cars having a hiding spot precisely in that same spot to actually consider it secure.
Found out my center armrest slides forward by accident. Was vacuuming the rear floor and put my hand on it and it slid forward. I thought I had broken it and started cussing myself.
Wow... Eye roll right after a question... not the best way to get a response. Not sure the PN, but there have been a few threads about people with 1's upgrading. Do a quick search for armrests and something should pop up.
True, so I fabricated a L out of some scrap wood I had, that plus a good size cushion allows me to rest my right Arm and also hold the steering wheel comfortably. I reserve it for trips. 29 Oct: Went on a small trip thru Amador wine valley, the armrest worked fair, the height was good and the length, but wobbly, have to give it some more thought. Any ideas?
Huh? Eye roll? I'm confused. I guess the emoticons looked diff on my Mac(?) Thanks for the reply! Turn off signatures in Tapatalk Tapatalk
That is Dealer's process. they have to let us know..after we bought this CAR. I bought my 2012 Camaro Last Year and I just knew couple of weeks ago that back seats foldable....and whole year I was thinking how to cut my Big subwoofer...sometimes, I have to pay attention...I mean, all times I have to pay attention.
Thanks for the tip "You have to push/pull it pretty hard to get it to move". I had tried everything and figured I did not have this feature on my 4. When I tried pulling very hard, it worked! Thanks very much!
