My dealer just called me saying that my 2006 Seaside Pearl will be "on the boat" at the end of December. But that it won't have Leather. He says leathers won't be coming for 2 or 3 months.

Is this just for him? or all over?

    I live on Long Island.

No he isn't necessarily telling a story... NY lists as not having Package 8 as an option. So it is possible that they will later add #8 to this region and he somehow knows that. That is upsetting if true because i wanted leather since July when i ordered mine but here on Staten Island its the same thing, package 7 is the best they can do... I need my car by end of january so if you take a 7 and you want leather getting it done at a place is your next best option. It runs just about the same, maybe less as ordering it as a package.

I was told the same thing by my dealership. Leather may be dalayed bya a couple of months.

My dealership said that if they get a package #7 earlier than that, they can do a complete leather conversion for me instead (they have a complete upholstery shop in house). I even get to choose the color (or combination of colors) if I want something diferent. I'm mulling it over right now, maybe dark grey alcantara with some silver leather highlights to match the car...

I'm in California and picked up a Package 8, with leather, last week. So, they are out there...just maybe not in New York. Sorry.

I'm also in CA (north) and picked up an '06 Package 6 last week. My dealer asked if I would like leather (the car had arrived already). Apparently, the dealer that I purchased my vehicle from can install leather seats on-site.

Interesting. On the Toyota site, when I put in my zip code and build a prius, there is no package #8, but there is a #7 which is about the same. Later, in the building process, you can pick your seat covers. 2 in leather, 2 cloth...and it doesn't increase the price any.

I've seen it in leather and it looks fantastic. It almost makes me think about getting a new one as opposed to a used 2004.

I should know in about a week if my package #8 is going to get here by the mid January date I was promised. If not, I may seriously consider doing the package #7 with dealer installed leather. I've seen the stuff they have done, and it's pretty nice. Plus, if I can choose some unique colored leather, even better.

    Hi Everyone,

I just talked to a delaer in Albuquerque, NM who told me I could not get leather without option package 8 unless I do it aftermarket for about $2,000. I have a call into a dealer in Santa Fe to confirm this, but I was wondering if any of you knew. It seems like some of you may have been able to get leather without option package 8, and if that's true how did you do it?

    Thanks!

I bought an '05 Pkg #4 and added leather at an aftermarket speciality shop that does 95% car dealers work (as opposed to the general public).

Total cost was $1100. The leather looks factory installed--it has to be if most of their referrals are from car dealers.

The other advantage of an aftermarket shop is that you can put in leather no matter what options are on the car. With a Toyota factory job, you have to opt for Pkg. #8 which would have cost $5000 more than my Pkg. 4 (2005 model).

After I posted I actually called Toyota. They said that even though you can add the leather on the website to any option package, it is *not* actually available -- the website allows you to create something they do not make. It is true that you can only get the leather with option package 8 (which is ridiculous if you ask me).

I checked into aftermarket leather, and the best place here to do it (highly recommended) estimates the work at $2250 and the dealer will not finance that in, so I'd have to pay it separately.

I'm *really* dissapointed. I have a 5 year old daughter and a baby on the way, and if you've ever tried to clean milk out of cloth seats, you understand why I want leather so badly!

I just added my name to the waiting list at my local dealership here in Santa Fe for a white or silver 2006 with option package 3. Maybe someday, I'll spring for the leather.

I was so excited and now I'm really let down. Maybe when I can drive it, I'll feel better again. :(

    Thanks for the info!

I guess I'm very lucky. I was also told by the dealer that they weren't bringing the leather into the NY area. I'm assuming that's temporary but anyway, I said I didn't want car without leather. He "traded out" with another dealer and my car arrives in port on Jan 3. Now I'm getting excited. Barcelona Red with Package #8!

By the way, I ordered this car back in Sept I think....long time ago!

I picked up my Package #8 here in Northern California a couple of weeks ago. I think Toyota did a great job with the leather, better than some of my friends who had their 2005 done after market..

After mulling it over all day (and not getting any work done) I decided I don't want a Prius without leather. So, I'm going to talk to the dealer about package 8, even though I *really* don't want the DVD player, and 29K is too much for me to pay. I can only hope that my dealer is willing to work with me on my trade or something to make this thing doable.

    So we'll see...

I'm in Oklahoma, driving an 06 SSB package #5 with factory gray leather. Leather was added at the port. Also took off all dealer port adds before it arrived at port.

The factory leather is very nice!

    OK I did it!

I ordered a Super White with package #8. :) My dealer said he heard the wait was 6 months, but then they found out they got a really good first allotment, so we'll see...

My plan is to negotiate on my trade-in to get the payment down to a reasonable amount. I drive an '04 New Beetle Turbo Convertible now (would keep it, but I have a baby on the way and the infant seat doesn't fit in the tiny backseat) which has a nice resale value especially in the southwest where convertible driving is ideal.

I'm looking forward to joining you all as a Pruis owner someday in the next 6 months!

Can anybody who's received a 2006 package 8 with leather tell me what the leather actually covers other than seats. Thanks.
