I'm getting it for about 8k so I think it's a good deal. Original owner, garage kept dealer serviced throughout it's ownership. I understand that heat can degrade batteries over time but is it safe to assume that low mileage would equal a better battery? Is there a method to easily test the battery?
welcome! sounds like a great deal to me! what kind of heat are we talking about? are you in the southeast or west? are you in a carb state with 150k warranty on hybrid components? best way to test battery is to reset the mpg gauge and take it for a good long drive under varying conditions. see what kind of mpg's you're getting. all the best!
^^^Oceansurfer? I am going to stick my neck out and guess CA. CARB warranty I believe is 10-yrs or 150k miles so you might want to ask purchase date to get a feel for how long you have on that.
Seems like a good deal, but check its history. Do any of you know if the carb warranty is valid in Florida?
The battery also degrades with age. I don't think an old car with low mileage is a better buy than a newer car with higher mileage. An older Prius might not be a good option unless you have the ready cash to buy a new battery.
I couldn't be happier with my purchase as I'm averaging close to 52mpg over the past week of ownership. Only time will tell regarding the life of the battery but the original owner took good care of this car. No rattles, squeaks and smooth as can be! That being said, I understood the risk of buying an older prius and threw caution to the wind anyway.
