Do I hear my proximity / noisemaker thingy Shift gears? hahaha I have yet to drive another car beside it but I think I hear it "shift gears" around 28-29mph?
I am definitely able to reproduce what I hear EVERY time I drive in EV mode.. The noise "shifts gears" and shortly after that theres too much wind noise to hear it from the driverseat. Might have to set up the GOPRO camera! lol
A) your Prius itself never shifts gears B) The noise maker works at 15 MPH and below However, C) the noise maker DOES change with speed. Toyota's 2012 Prius V hybrid will make noise to alert pedestrians
I heard the flying saucer around 25-27 mph. It does make an up-down noise that sounds like it's shifting.
Mine is definitely audible well above 12mph. I'd have to check to see exactly, but I'd say i notice it the most around 20mph.
U know I will have to pay attention tobsee if it downshifts too lol.. Herrrrderrrrrrr I know the Prius doesnt shift. . The noise does SCH-I545 ? 4
Nit: the Prius does not even have a CVT, in the mechanical sense. The Power Split Device along with MG1 and MG2 plus a lot of computer code simulates the effect of a CVT.
Yep, I know an eCVT, but it's not worth trying to explain that to a novice. All they know is that they can't feel a shift.
I unplugged that dumb thing months ago and never looked back...my car is nice and quiet now at low speeds.
Just remember that if you hit a pedestrian or bicyclist, you've given them grounds - both legal and moral - to sue. I also ride a bicycle, and even some ICE cars are too quiet to hear coming if there is ambient noise.
If one hits a pedestrian/ cycler while going under 12 mph I seriously doubt he should be behind the wheel of any car and 2010 Prius or 2009 Prius did not have a noisemaker. If you think a toddler can hear a small whirring sound I think you're mistaken. I don't think it does anything more than annoy people in a parking lot. It's not even familiar noise.
