I've seen tons of threads about led turn signals and how to correct hyper blink, the only problem is all of the DIY instructions are for an older model prius. I have a 2013 and I have bought an led flasher control box but cannot figure out how to install it in the dash. Has anyone done this? Does anyone know how? Thanks!
Boldly go where no man has gone before, and make sure you post pics when your mod research and work are done! To get you going in the right direction, figure out what flasher relay you currently have. Name and PN# will put you on the path of a LED equivalent!
Totally on board with contributing, but I really don't know where to begin. I know the area the flasher relay is in, I just cannot get to it. I don't know how to get the dash apart. If I figure it out, pics will follow!
It is up above the brake pedal high in the dash. That is the way to approach it. It is likely attached to a white plastic tray that is very hard to get out in one piece. I am pretty sure there was a least one 2012 owner that did that job and suspect that 2013 is similar. Keep searching and reading.
Just like Spierman said.....its above the brake pedal high in the dash between the steering colume & the A pillar. You will have to remove the lower dash cover to get to it.
Handparty, here is my 2013, again like spiderman said, is all the up there. Lay down on back, your head should near the brake pedal and reach all the way up there, once you feel the relay, use your finger nail & press hard to release the lock then pull down & wiggles slowly (not with force). The lock is between harness & the A-tray-like -wall. Good luck!
I have a 2012 and I replaced my flasher. It wasn't easy. I found it impossible to remove the flasher itself. Using a bent coat hanger, I was able to tug on the harness while depressing the retaining clip with my finger. It took several tries, a flashlight, and some cursing. Then, I was able to attach the led flasher to the harness. With a bit more cursing, I was able to zip tie the led flasher to something nearby to keep it from flopping around. I have yet to replace my turn signals with LEDs as there seem to be no LEDs that are bright enough being sold. The Cree XP-E2 led should be plenty bright, but I have yet to find a source of the bulbs with a T20 base. See weasel.com: Performance Automotive Stuff for lots of details about lying ebay sellers. Just this week, I contacted a seller who had a super bright amber T20 cree, claiming it was bin r3. I said: In the description, you say the bulb is an amber cree r3. Cree doesn't make any amber leds in the r3 bin. Can you tell me the cree xlamp model and bin for this lamp? He replied: Sorry, In fact, i'mnot sure about that. Sorry again. If anyone knows of a source of a bright t20 amber led turn signal, please let me know.
Could please upload pics of the install I really hate havering hyperflash in my pip, plus maybe what part # or model number, you should check ddm tuning
This is what I bought: 8-Pin 81980-50030 066500-4650 Electronic LED Flasher Assy Relay Fix For Lexus Scion or Toyota LED Turn Signal Light Bulbs : Amazon.com : Automotive Pictures too hard to make, due to the confined space, sorry.
Yes, because it is the relay that is causing it to hyperflash. It thinks a light bulb is out and it hyperflashes to alert you to fix the broken bulb...
That's what I thought, thanks. Seems the only flasher out there that doesn't have first blink delay for LEDs is Tapturn, the one with convenience signaling built in.
Here's what the final install should look like with the Tapturn module. I just bought mine yesterday and am getting the help of a local PC member for the install.
