Thinking of buying a used 2006 Prius with 50K miles. We need to carry 3-4 bikes and I have found the Yakima DoubleDown 4 and Draw-Tite #24808 1.25-inch, Class 1 hitch to do this--I think. I'm trying to fins out what others' experiences have been installing this kind of combo (or having this installed): is this a true DIY project? 1, How do you re-installl the rear plastic panel? 2. Where do you get the fasteners? Do they come only from Toyota? 3. What problems should I anticipate/look forward to? 4. Any recommended hitch dealers in Oakland-Alameda that anyone recommends if I do not install it myself? Looking to talk to/correspond with folks who have already done this--BEFORE we buy the car...E: jonswriter AT att DOT net...
Youtube has some good videos on installing a Curt Hitch. It is only 4 bolts to install it on the car. I have also researched U-Haul has a hitch and will install it fora $35. I dont have any experience with the bike rack you mention. I have an old 3 bike rack that I have had for over 20 years that I use to this day
Amazon.com: Sea Sucker Talon Bicycle Rack, Black, 1-Bike: Sports & Outdoors Here is an option to consider the 'sea-sucker' I've personally never used it, but it is rated 4 of 5 stars on Amazon. I'm considering it for my Prius, I have my wife's trike which will fit into the trunk with the back seats down, and mount my bike on the roof with the sea-sucker. I don't know if this will help you with what you're looking for, but I wanted to share the option with you in case you weren't aware of the product.
