How does your C-Max compare to a Tesla Model S or a Rolls-Royce Phantom for that matter? Actually, we are in luck, Edmunds also tested them: 2005 Phantom, @70mph, 59db 2012 Model S, @70mph, 61.2db! Amazing cars. I think OP should consider them instead of the Prius C.
Ha...got me thinking....if the OP is hearing impaired does it make a difference? Luckily the C has a ton of benefits beyond just road noise db's that made us all get one. : )
Why? I am not the one complaining about road noises, Prius C is fine for me. I thought we were just here to compare totally random cars and recommend them to OP. BTW, didn't you notice that the Phantom is so much quieter than Model S. If you just can't stand road noises, I would highly recommend it. They say you can hear your clock ticking in that car.
Loud comparable to the Phantom for sure. Don't even bother checking. Go with the Phantom if you want a quiet car.
I love my Prius c. When I took my Colorado to California trip, I found the seat very comfortable. I didn’t find myself shifting around trying to get comfy like I used to with my previous cars. I never noticed the engine/road noise. (My old Saturn SL2 had to downshift to make it up big hills--now that noise I noticed!) Also, once I turned off ECO mode (which I like to use around town), I found the power more than adequate. Now I can appreciate someone deciding the Prius c Is not for them, and they are welcome to state that opinion. What I can’t understand is why someone would hang around our forums to continue bashing the car. You didn’t like the Prius c; you said why you feel that way (over and over); so why the <bleep> are you still here? By the way, that was a rhetorical question; I would prefer not getting an answer. Smart money says, however, that I’ll be disappointed!
C will drive all day long at 70 miles an hour very comfortably and still get you 50 plus MPG. Being on the LIE will a piece of cake for it. It does not seem cheap to me on the inside, it was designed to be light, so yes it had much plastic, but it does not feel or look cheap. Its not intended to go up against a BMW or Lexus. It does what it was intended to do, get great MPG and look sporty! By the way it has great A/C which is always a selling point to me. City car is just a marketing thing, it drives just like other prius, with just a little less juice
Ignore him. Trolls have a large ego, a hide like a rhinoceros, and an insatiable appetite for seeing themselves in print. If you starve them, however, they will soon depart for greener pastures....
...and this discussion board has a feature to do that for you. Click on the person's name over on the left, then hit "ignore". I've been resisting the urge to do so in this case, because I'm not against hearing differences of opinion, but this seems to have drifted away from opinion to evident agenda, so I'm not sure how much longer I will hold out for. Others have pointed out that c owners here tend to be all too willing to point out the car's weaknesses, yet for some reason we continue to defend it on this point. Could be because it's not the issue certain people are claiming I guess. ztanos has linked to the "Wind Noise - I Like It" thread so it seems pointless to continue discussing it. As I've said there (and elsewhere) - the two universal comments I get from people in my car for the first time are "It's so quiet!" and "It's so smooth!". The only people who seem to say otherwise are motoring journalists or people with agendas, admitted or otherwise. Noise measuring equipment doesn't have an agenda and this one's been measured. Myth busted. It's that simple.
Why it's phenomenal to me is the comparison to the car I used to have (its speedometer is my avi). My 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham was *lucky* to get 24MPG. A few times, when the weather was nice enough, I could run a tank with no heat or no AC and I got 27MPG. That happened TWICE in the 2 years I owned the car. Before that I had a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. That car's best was 25 MPG. So it *is* phenomenal to me to get 71MPG on a 12-mile trip, or get 57.7 MPG as I did on my last full tank. My wife's car, before she got her '13 Corolla, had a '96 Mustang. We were lucky to get 17MPG on it, and it was well-maintained. So she's gone from 17Mpg-->35MPG, which is nice. The other thing I'll add: budget. Everyone's is different, but we tried very hard to find a hybrid car made by an American company that would give the features I wanted, the mileage we needed to justify the purchase, and be inexpensive enough for us to afford. We test drove many. The Prius C was the *only* car that fit our budget, by a LONG shot. I'd happily have purchased a Ford hybrid, but the cost was prohibitive. I would've thought by now an American car manufacturer would be at least competitive. In our research, we didn't find one. The savings in our fuel costs alone nearly equal one of my car payments for the C.
I bought the prius c level 2 options in august. I spent less than 21k, I got 0% financing for 5 years, free maintance for 2 years/25k. This car is nice, but small. The interior is all plastic? that is true but I think it looks fine. What is really important 5 star crash rating in all directions. this is one of the safest cars. It also gest great mpg. I get over 61mpg calculated/ 63 according to car mpg calculator. The car has a firm ride but is not noisey and feels solid like my 89 toyota pickup 4wd I had. I believe I will drive this car for a long time and it will be safe and usefull long after many other small cars. If you consider that you will burn only 50%-70% as much fuel. This car clearly has the value to earn my purchase! Another thing to consider is that burning less fuel also makes us less dependant on forien oil. Our need for forien oilmakes us weak as a country. If gas goes way up our economy goes way down. so buying a car that gets real world on average mpg over epa rated 50 mpg helps. I would rather send a little extra $ to Japan than extra $ to USA haters. and that IMHO
I test drove the Fit Sport and Prius C. I thought the Fit Sport had louder road noise than the Prius C. Compared to my 98 Honda Civic, the Prius C road noise is much quieter. The Prius C seat fits me more comfortably than the Prius liftback. I think it's because they used upgraded seats. I got 60 MPG highway today driving 60-65MPH.
The big difference we find between our Fit and Prius C is the "quickness" of the Fit. The Fit feels like it wants to jump when you accelerate. The braking feel is stronger with the Prius. And yes, the Prius C is much quieter than the Fit. The cargo space is amazing in the Fit and okay in the C. They both, in general, are much different but we feel very satisfied with the purchases. I will add we were considering waiting for the new Fit that is coming out I believe next year but when my wife saw pictures of the future Fit, she said it was awful and had no interest in it.
I like the look of the honda fit now, I was considering it, but the mpg was lower than I wanted. Both the fit and prius c are going to be great cars IMO. I have been thinking of turning eco mode off, and see if the car still gets similar mpg with my driving habits. I have been accelerating more quickly up to speed then leting up and switching to elec. this seems to give similar mpg to staying out off the gas. I am sure other drivers will find less frustration with a quick acceleration.
We tried driving in eco mode and found the car too sluggish. Mileage didn't seem to change much using the "feather" approach on the accelerator with the eco mode on or off so we prefer to keep it off .
