So I was curious how many plug in drivers have a car as powerful as the Prius plug in on the CBS show "Under the Dome"? In the ast episode they were in a big hurry and jumped in the plug in and took off squealing the tires, just like on Dukes of Hazzard! My regular Prius won't do this, must be a lot more power from the plug ins! Lol
I loved when they took the time to plug it in to the wall at the clinic, which is being run on emergency propane generator.
Yea, he told the kid it's going to be needing the charge. Now, we need to see a Volt, a Leaf and a Tesla.
I rented a brand new regular Prius last month, and it definitely seemed more sluggish than my Plugin if I kept the power under the "ECO" line. If I keep it under ECO in the plugin in EV mode, I accelerate reasonably quickly -- definitely keeping up with traffic. In the regular Prius, if I kept it under ECO, I had a bunch of angry people on my tail. But neither one ever burned any rubber.
I actually burned rubber with the PiP once but it was a little wet out from the recent rain and when I gunned it because of heavy traffic, it actually chirped the tires. Had all kinds of lights flash at me from the traction control. I actually started to laugh it caught me by surprise. The ICE definitely came on. iPad ? HD
I actually have gotten my PiP drive wheels to slip on dry pavement once or twice, but I'd hardly call it "burning rubber". There's a turn near my house where you're on a very steep uphill (about 20% grade!) making a right turn onto another uphill road into fast-moving traffic. The car's already got the weight shifted backwards due to the hill, and making a hard right turn pulls even more weight off the right front wheel, plus you're stomping on it to get into the flow of traffic, so it's pretty easy to spin the front right wheel in that situation. But like I said, it doesn't exactly count as "burning rubber." It would be a bit like getting excited that you can manage a burnout in the snow.
I pulled out onto the highway in my v from a restaurant last week with the tires squealing. It's possible! I was pretty impressed.
I spotted another Gen III Prius last night- this time on Breaking Bad. The meth distribution lady drives a Barcelona Red Prius.... (she's driving it away in the background).
Isn't it not recommended to charge on a generator? I know its not recommended for the Volt. You would think with just the emergency power they would throw a few circuit breakers to keep the juice on essential loads and not exterior outlets and electronic card key access points.
