    Friends and family,

I'm in the Market for an Extended Warranty for my 2012 Plug-in Prius 13.7K miles. Does anyone have any insight or experience of where to purchase the Best Extended Warranty for the Plug-in's?
Who is the best dealership to purchase from? What should the cost of the Extended Warranty be?

    Looking for:
    • 0 deductible
    • 100,000 or 150,000 mile Warranty
    • 100% coverage on everything including batteries
    • 100% transferable

    Thanks.

Are extended warranties worth the investment?

Search the forums here. There's a Toyota salesman who gives discounted deals on extended warranties to PC members. Toyota covers the traction battery for 8 years/100K miles, or for 10 years/150K miles in CARB states, so I don't think that is in the extended warranty.
I didn't buy one for my '04, did get it for my '06, but not for my PiP. On the '06 I used it once, to replace the rear cargo hatch supports. If you greatly value peace-of-mind, go for it. Otherwise, it is a money maker for the dealer and Toyota. I wouldn't buy one from anyone other than Toyota, BTW.

I personally would advise against extended warranties.

Just did a little research and found a post from Troy Dietrich, (search forum called "Sponsored Commercial Sales") the guy who was selling the warranty to members at a discounted price. He says that Toyota has instituted a new policy barring dealers from advertising extended warranties out of state. If you want one, you have until the factory warranty is near expiration- then you can negotiate a price for the warranty coverage you want with any dealer. Read Troy's post below, as he says he can still sell them.
    "FYI....

Unfortunately, this will likely be my last post. Toyota has recently put into place a new policy where dealers can no longer advertise or solicit for Toyota Financial Services VSA (extended warranty) sales to out of state customers via the internet.

This doesn't mean I can't sell them...but, I can't actively participate or promote the sale of them here myself any longer.

If anyone has any questions feel free to call me at my direct number 413-772-0989 or email me at [email protected]"

Does not mean that I can not recommend someone!
If I were to get extended warrenty I would go with troy! Give him a call if interested. He did a great job for me on my first Prius, 2005.

I will think about it when I have almost 35,000 or 35 months. As of now I don't think I will, but I'm keeping the door open.

you really can't say with precision. For example our 2004's extended warranty more than paid for itself 2 times over..... but its a crap shoot either way - your results may vary. That said, and maybe most importantly you don't have to get one until just about the day before the factory warranty ends - so save your money for now .... you may need it for something better down the road

:)This is the BEST advice I've ever seen on any forum regarding extended warranties. Most are normally very negative. With a extended warranty, you're limiting your liability to a defined dollar amount. Even if you never use it, your dollar loss is a defined dollar amount.
