Toyota claims there is no market for Plugins. They have claimed to have taken a survey already on this issue. I am taking my own.

I have plugged in my car every night for several months! No not the battery but the block heater on a timer. Not a problem and I will keep doing it until the temps rise! OK I admit that on 3 occasions I was in a hurry and forgot to disconnect but the plug appears to be easily disconnected so no harm done. I would suggest if Toyota does this that a quick easy disconnect is a critical feature!

They've taken a survey? Who the hell did they ask? And HOW did they ask it? I PHEV would never NEED to be plugged in - only if you want to reduce pollution and get your "gallon of gas equivalent" energy for under $1. Take a look what happens when one gas station is 20c lower than another. A line around the block. Yeah, I think people would be willing to remember to plug in if it saved them more than 50% on their gas bill!

I've been plugging in our main vehicle every day for almost six years now. It is easier than unbuckling your seatbelt, and WAY the hell easier than driving out of your way to a gas station and standing in the rain and wind. We fuel in the comfort of our garage, at home where it is warm and safe... and never out of the way. It TRULY sucks when I have to buy gas for the secondary car. I have to get in the car and DRIVE somewhere to put gas in the damn thing! Yup, that's convenient! Not.

I'd love to see how they asked the question. Why not ask, "do you enjoy driving to the gas station, standing on greasy asphalt and being subjected to heat/cold/rain/wind/darkness/benzene and hastening the destruction of our planet?"

    Thanks for voting. :)

I plug in, and am proud of it!

I think you have your YES and NO backward. The question is, is it a hassle? NO would mean I like to plug in. YES would mean I don't like to plug in.

Maybe Toyota messed up their survey as well?

The answer for me is NO, it is not a hassle, I already plug in my laptop, my cell phone, and my ipod, so why not my car?

i think the ONLY (oops... sorry maggie) reason Toyota dissed the plug was basically perception. as it is, half the people i know think i plug my Prius in.

the last thing Toyota wanted to do was cause confusion. that should be obvious based on their "dont have to plug it in ever" campaign

however times change and someone will take advantage...hopefully, the leader in this wil be someone i can trust

I'd sure be curious to hear from the folks voting that it is too much trouble.

The odd part is... we're mostly asking people to comment on something they've never had the chance to experience. And few stop to realize that this "task" is IN PLACE OF having to drive to the gas station. It isn't an added task, but one that can replace the inconvenient one. And calling it a "task" is like calling opening the door to get in the car, a task.

If designed well, this could just be a matter of precision parking. Very carefully pull in to the garage and just as you stop, the plug is inserted into the wall. The next morning, just back out.

So, no remembering to plug it in, just learn precision parking techniquies.

I think your results may be skewed by how you posed the original question "Is plugging the car in at night a hassle?" and then offering "yes" and "no" answers with explanations intuitively opposite of a simple yes or no answer.

Without reading the yes and no explanations I voted NO quickly assuming "No, plugging the car in at night would not be a hassle for me". But your explanations after the yes and no indicated different meanings to the question posed.

Sure, most people probably would have read the explanation first, but I got taken by this one.

You're not a professional ballot question writer, are you? ;-)

Using capitals in computer talk is like shouting in a conversation. It turns some people off. They skip over the capped item, like walking out of the room or switching stations on a radio if someone is shouting.

If you want to communicate your mesage to as many people as possible, avoid typing in all caps.

Why would anyone need to plug in your Prius at night, unless you're using a battery tender on your 12 Volt battery?

I already plug in every week night (during winter) for the block heat and cabin pre-heater.
So adding a charger would not change anything.
