I have had two Toy hybrids. I wouldn't want another one after driving the new Fusion and the fantastic reliability I had with the 2010 Fusion Hybrid. I also have a 13 Flex ecoboost thats getting 21+ MPG and can pull my 7500# gross horse trailer with ease. There is not one single thing I could point to in either car that I have a complaint about. The MFT works in both, the latest update fixed a lot of the glitches, it just takes a learning curve that most people don't have the patience for to learn.

They both have adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance alert, along with rain sensing wipers, Cross Traffic Alert with BLIS. The Fusion has lane keeping that actually does keep the car in the lane by itself, auto highbeams that actually work well. All are great features not available in either of the Toy Hybrids.

A 13 FFH SE with the Luxury package is as comfortable and better handling than the Avalon, and $10K less expensive, the Camry doesn't even compare.

You Ford haters can bitch and moan all you want, but the Ford Fusion and Cmax are better cars all around compared to their rivals.

 

Lets see who will be on the road in 20 years?

 

1979 Ford LTD wagon, 300K miles before rust got it, went to the scrapper in 1999. Thats 20 years. 1995 Mercury Grand marquis, in my garage right now, 135K on it, still in very good condition, only thing wrong with it is the on/off switch broke in the radio. Runs fine, still original transmission, engine. Air ride suspension still working as designed. Only things replaced were the ball joints and tie rods, which is quite normal for that type of steering system in any car. 2 more years, = 20 years.

Getting back to the original topic. I can picture someone comparing a C-Max over a Prius lift back. Yes, it's more fun to drive, peppier for sure. Slightly more room for cargo, seems bigger inside for occupants. I'd still prefer my Prius V over it, because I got it for the cargo space. I have no problems getting the EPA estimates, none at all. My Toyota dealer is right across the lot from their Ford dealer, so they interact daily. I know for sure which dealer is spending more time on warranty claims

As far as sedans? I love the looks of the new Fusion. Don't like the smallish legroom in the back. It's also a nice-to-drive vehicle. I've driven the all-new Accord, and I prefer that vehicle hands-down over the Fusion. The back seat room is comparatively cavernous. Honda, IMO, did a much better job than Toyota did in the Camry, and I fully expect Toyota will have to scurry around quicker than their normal snail's pace.

I enjoy having a vehicle that I don't have to spend time defending the maker. I wouldn't anyway, as I don't make up stories. Ford's done well loading up vehicles and getting an amazing premium. They have fantastic marketing, built up amazing perception, and have managed to get into far less trouble with misstatements and recalls than Toyota did with floor mats. Hardly anyone has read about Ford's fairly recent calls with Real unintended acceleration. Sticky pedal. I hope they do well, and I hope all manufacturers realize that it's better to be truthful and build a loyal base, than lie and then blame the owners. Eventually, the teflon coating on your brand wears off.

 

1992 Lexus LS 400 with 170k miles told by the dealer that its not even broken in, runs like new, not one rattle inside. Dealer still sees tons of the 1st gen LS 400. These cars will be on the road for another 20 years. 1970 fords were better made and had no electronics so they should be on the road still.

 

When I test drove the Cmax, it was OK, handled well, but felt too much like a minivan to me. Then I drove the Fusion and the way it hugged the road, and the comfort had me sold.

I dont defend Ford though, I am still pissed over the way they treated me over the first car, and had it not been for my dealer standing behind me, I would still be battling them over it.

 

Cheer up, you're getting closer to their Revised 43 mpg of the C-Max.

 

Just pulled the trigger and purchased a used 2013 C-Max SEL w every option except the scenic roof. 21k and some change. Hopefully it will be as good a car as my Prius has been. The dealer did take mine as a trade and I credit Toyota for making a car that people might still want even if it has 267k miles.

1 owner 18k miles. I should have it Sunday.

 

I am halfway through my first full tank. I have found I get better mileage driving 70 than 57-60 mph as I did in the Prius. Averaging 42mpg. I think once I get the tire pressure right and some synthetic oil I can push it to 45 or so without too much difficulty. My one big complaint so far is the center console storage is hard to utilize as easily as the Prius. Beyond that... what's not to like.

 

I've been driving around for the last two weeks and still have a half tank after 600 plus miles
