Like the title say I picked up a 2005 Prius that was converted to run on Hydrogen. This was a project that was worked and licensed by a company called Quantum Technology unfortunately I have no idea if the car runs or not, it was sold "AS IS"!! All I want to do is to converted it back to a Prius that runs on gas!! The car at the moment is missing a gas tank, no key, no power, and the small battery in the truck (right side), The engine oil is milky color (I am guessing that the motor is bad)... I know this is a big project and I am in no way a mechanic but I have a good feeling that this is not that bad of a project to piece back together!! I have called the company and of course they said sorry we can not give you any information on our technology and even questioned me how I got the car at the first place. After what is said and done can anyone care to advise me on what route I should go next?? BTW.. I have found a junkyard that only works on Prius to convert it back but they cant do it till end of November... Thanks in advance!
water in oil.. usually a sign of blown head gasket. Could be a result of H2. check compression if O'k, change oil/filter (don't bother with synthetics, just the cheapest), get a battery (cheap garden tractor, or if you have to take off other car), change/check spark plugs, then try to start it. I'll bet they burned pistons
Does a hydrogen car even need an ICE or would it need the Prius HSD at all? Does this car still have the fuel cell or what ever else they were using still installed? Can it even be converted back to a regular Prius? Does it still have the traction battery pack? Sorry for all the questions this is interesting.

hydrogen can be used in 2 ways. fuel cell converting it to electricity like the Honda clarity or use it as straight fuel used in the BMWs 7 series hydrogen. in the BMW the 7 series the engine has been converted to burn hydrogen.

I had this project for couple months now just sitting at my mechanic's place and he said he does not know how to fix hybrids.So as in right now I am sure I have to do a motor swap (motor is cheap anyways! $400-500 w 45k) but do you think they changed out or reprogrammed ecu's and what other things do you think I need to swap it back to stock? Also I need someone to cut and program the start key and get a battery ( I believe is a small one on the right truck) BTW. I had a quoted by the junkyard to covert it back roughly around 2700 but they can't do it till Nov. I dont mind if somebody out there in the greater Los Angeles w/ knowledge to check out the car and give me some advise just PM me!

I suggest you put out a Want To Buy in the Private Sales area for the other parts that you need. For example, does your salvage motor have fuel injectors? I recall someone having an extra fuel tank due to having a mis-diagnosed fuel system problem. If you already have someone lined up to do the work for $2700, take it, because I doubt you'll find anyone else nearby willing to do the work, let alone for that cheap. The key fob is a tough one. You need to have the immobilizer reset. It is probably cheaper to have your junkyard crew pull an immobilizer and HV ECU from another car, they just need to make sure that they match up on the with or without smart key issue. You may also need the engine computer (ECM) anyway if it had to have some kind of custom fuel map for the hydrogen + turbo system -- or else there is some kind of piggyback computer in it that will have to come out. Register your car at Toyota.com/owners to get information specific to it.

There was some wire harness with a ecu looking unit (I would say it looks like a size of a VCR tape) under the passages seat which I think is not stock?? Anyhow 2700 is a fair prices but I was hoping to get this project done ASAP since my mechanic is in need for space....
Why did you purchase a clunker? Why did you want to convert it back after the 100k it took to get it tot he hydrogen point?
I think you are looking at a potentially huge project. You have no idea what has been done to the poor thing and won't know 'till someone opens it up. A regular mechanic will have an awful time with it. Why not sell it to someone who wants a neat project and just buy a cheap-but-working gen II? Got any pics?
