It's a very valid thought. Question is if the payback is worth it. Sure you could gain more juice and AWD but you add more weight and likely loose battery space.

You are judging a Prius AWD as if it would be a mechanical system that adds weight and mechanical friction. Toyota uses an eAWD system which just adds an extra electric motor/generator on the rear axle and a somewhat larger HV battery. This does add a bit of weight, but has no appreciable effect on MPG (as used in the Highlander Hybrid eAWD today).

I found this thread via a search on Google but thought I would chime in.

The rumors are that for 2015, it will be a lithium ion battery (lighter and there for increase in MPG), and a redesign of the interior to be more like that of the current Prius C (mainly in the armrest section). They may offer an AWD version, and limited if any body style changes on the exterior.

I myself am not waiting (getting a 2013 Prius 4) because I need a car now. A couple of years after the next generation has been out, if it looks good, I can always sell my 2013 and get the new one. As you are all aware I'm sure, the resell value on Prius is quite high.

If you had "too" what? Or "two" what? Oh, never mind. Just kidding. I got your meaning.

True, if you bought a 2013 then bought a 2015 to get the extra 10 mpg, you would definitely take a hit in the pocket. If the objective is to save gas, that would be counter intuitive. If you are going to buy the 2015 because you 'LIKE' the features, your action now becomes a desire and logic goes out the door.

I chimed in because I'm in that situation too. Should I purchase a 2013 or 2014, get the 50 mpg and be disappointed when I see the 2015 and wish I'd waited. Decisions, decisions.

Some say never purchase a new revision/version....they need to work the kinks out first, so that will be at least 2+ years, so maybe the new version to consider purchasing would be a 2017 (bug/kink free)!!!

I'm getting online display of selling price for a Prius 4 in BP with SR for:

    Base 28,435
    Options 4514
    Delivery 860
    Total 33,809
    Selling price 30,413

Dealer Comments : Dealer pricing includes applicable cash incentives from Toyota that may not be used in conjunction with special finance rates or lease programs. In other words, it's your choice: special rate or Toyota cash incentive- we can't use both :)
This is with Toyota's incentive, so no 0% financing. Dealer says no dealer fees.
So, for that SP, I'd have to get my own financing or go higher to get 0% up to 60 months.
Anyone have a clue as to what it would increase by to get 0%.
    And....is that a good price?

    The $4514 in options includes:
    Special color BP 395.00
Solar Roof, premium HDD and JBL speakers 3,820.00
    Mats 299.00

Prius 3 in BP with SR
Same dealer is showing online selling price for $25,650 with the same toyota incentive as above, so I'd have to get my own financing or pay more for the 0%.

    Base 25,765
    Options 2,194
    Delivery 860
    Total 28,819
    Selling price 25,650

    The 2,194 in options includes:
    Special color BP 395.00
    Solar roof 1500
    Mats 299.00
    And...is that a good price?

    Dealer is in Florida.

I don't have my bill of sale in front of me but I believe this is about what I paid recently, and I took the Toyota financing 0%. My carpet mats including trunk mat cost $249 if memory serves me correctly, and I believe those are highly negotiable, try to get them thrown in for free.

For what it's worth, what I am getting in NorCal for Prius 3 with solar roof, but no special color:

25K + TTL (or 26K + TTL if choosing the 0% financing option)

Seems a bit high to me. Any other thoughts?

We just ordered a '13 Prius Five, Blizzard Pearl + Dark Gray + Floor Mats for $29,730 before tax, which is right at invoice price plus TDA. They have to ship the car in from another dealer, which they originally tried to charge $700, but I was able to get them to take car that and throw in all weather mats. The 0% financing sold me on the '13 vs '14- I love free money. ;)

I felt like it was a decent deal. Other dealers were offering below invoice on their current stock, but we were set on the int/ext color + Five, and I also didn't feel the need to pay extra $ for the Adv Tech package so we passed. The car should get here in the next couple of days, excited for it! The wife will be the primary driver and it will be our road trip vehicle. It's replacing her '08 RX350 that we're giving to her parents, I hope she likes it!

I have a 2010 -- that is, the first year of Generation III. I had to buy that year because my Camry had had it. If I buy a Prius again -- not sure -- I will try to wait until the second year of the next generation -- that is, probably until 2017. There is nothing wrong with my 2010, but I think it probably makes sense to allow for a "shakedown" year with a new model. I would welcome a AWD system since it snows where I am.

    Any thoughts from others?

The weight issue with an AWD system will likely be alleviated if they switch to Lithium Ion batteries, which are lighter. This is rumored for a 2015 model.

In other words, an AWD Prius may not be heavier than a current Prius.

Well, in NorCal, the income of the population is generally higher, so the dealers may charge more. In FL, prices should more or less reflect the general population income since it's more a service oriented state. Then again, a lot of rich older folks live in the area with greater disposable income. It's market driven. Best time to buy is when it pouring rain on the last day of the month of a quarter and that particular car has been on the dealer's lot for over 6 mths!!

It's either 0% for 60 months or $1750 cash rebate in Florida. 99% of the dealers won't tell you this until you ask specifically. Just by asking for "OTD" pricing, the dealers will include that $1750 (making it seem lower than it actually is). Just remember to keep that in mind when you are getting online quotes.

I don't know about a Four, but I've been shopping around for a Five and the best OTD quotes (without 0% and with new tags) I got were $29k ($26.3k before TTL) for Winter Gray and $29.2k ($26.7k before TTL) for Blizzard Pearl. I plan on down paying $6-7k, so by taking out a loan with BofA (1.99% APR for 60 months) instead, I'd be only paying ~$1k in interest, which means taking the $1750 cash back results in a higher net discount.

Now I just need to decide if I should pull the trigger now or wait on an Accord Hybrid...

Thx, I felt it was fair since I did a lot of searching and couldn't find the exact car we wanted. The biggest discount I was offered around my way was $1k below invoice, but you had to choose from their stock. However, the $26.7k selling price for a Five above sounds like a ridiculous deal, as that is $2,500 below invoice. Now I feel like I was taken to the wood shed! :/

    Is there a mistype?
You indicated a OTD of $29k, $26.3k before TTL for winter gray &
OTD $29.2k, $26.7k before TTL for blizzard pearl for Prius 5.
So your TTL is over $3k???? o_O

    29.2 - 26.7 = 2.5 TTL and dealer/doc fees
    29 - 26.3 = 2.7 TTL and dealer/doc fees

let's see 29k-26.3k=2.7k and 29.2k-26.7k=2.5k The white one is two to three hundred more than the grey..... Woops, we must have posted at the same time, at least our math matched.

Can any1 tell me what "TTL" means? I've had a 2008 white Prius, which I hated the color, then leased a 2010 Blue one for I believe close 2 0% financing, turned it in July '13, & am wanting my "3rd" one in next couple months or so. Want dark gray this time, "regular" Prius, not sure if I even care what year, maybe '10 or '11, or even older, or 2013 if deal was good enough, just want to make sure I get the best deal possible. I need to get smarter about negotiating! Thx.

TTL is Tax Tag License, basically what the state (govt) adds. Dealer fees, in my mind, don’t fall under TTL and can be $600+ in some locals!
