The Energi is proving to be the right choice for me. This thing is fantastic  Untitled-1.jpg Untitled-2.jpg

The plug-in battery started @ 16 miles full, when I picked it up from the dealer last Sunday.
Now it's hit 28 miles. I can EV all over the place and the braking regen is awesome.
I can push it past the hybrid portion and add back to the EV portion. Today I was able to
add back 2 full EV miles, on a 47 mile trip

Did I say this thing was awesome ??? Hahahahahahahahaha! It is :D

Pardon my ignorance, what's the big deal with C-Max with 478 miles per tank + electricity to charge the battery where I am constantly getting 500+ miles (800km consuming 36 litres) out of my regular Prius?

    Am I missing something here?

Yes! I only charge 1 time everyday and don't always use the full EV battery.
I put 511 miles on the car in 6 days. The tank isn't full either.
That's about 86 miles miles a day. Lots of ICE time during the week
My first tank was 9.597 gallons @ 511 miles. It's a full size car with real wheels too!
The 188 horse power isn't bad either. Plus it turns, unlike a Prius :ROFLMAO:

Oh yeah, besides the speed (which is irrelevant for this class of vehicles) and the emphasis of the oversized gear stick (which is a waste of space), I still don't see what's the big deal with C-Max. Also, what's with the name? Sounds like someone who don't get any in real life but want a car as a substitute?!

    And real Cargo space! [IMG]
Your mileage is 53,24 mpg, includes daily 20-mile ev from "free electricity"?, so now both C-Max hybrid & C-Max Energi have the same combined 43 mpg? Compare Side-by-Side

53 MPG overall could be achieved by a regular Prius with bigger cargo.

9.6 gallons in six days so 1.6 gallon per day.

21 miles per charge. 65 remaining miles on gas with 1.6 gallon gives you 41MPG on gas miles.

If we take account the energy in the electricity together with gas, you get 47 MPGe.

Hahahhaaaaa! You're funny. If a shifter is a waste of space. You need a life and why in world
would you think of a shifter as a phallic symbol
Ohhhh my, I'm so inadequate. I think I'll buy a hybrid to make myself feel more manly :ROFLMAO:

You have issue's that go beyond brand loyalty and hybrid ownership o_O

Why would you put a piant can in there and then put the cover on top. You probably want to load cases of beer on top of each other to do cargo room, and no cover, to pretend you can't stack things. For most people the c-max energi gives you more cargo room than their cars. Its not going to give you pick up truck room, but that is why so many buy pick ups.;) I just borrow one when stuff is too big for my prius.

    +1
Only on a Prius board would that look bad. As the ratio of gas miles goes up the advantages of the plug-in go down. We don't know how much fuel a prius would use, but if it is an average route, fuelly gives it around 48 mpg. That will only use about 10% more gasoline, and a lot less electricity. Different choices are good though.

Nope! Not a daily 20 EV miles. Closer to 5 or 6 miles per the battery readout, for the first 5 days. I was testing the reserve of the EV battery and it's affects on hybrid driving. It's interesting to see how much EV I can pull out of it in EV later mode as a hybrid battery. I was also doing two days of total freeways travel and it's about as good as the C on the freeways running 65 to 70 mph.

I just started running the EV portion yesterday, but only did a .4 mile drive. I'll know more about full EV range capabilities today. The car is still breaking -in and I'm working with tire pressure settings too. We will see how it all works out. As long as it returns 50+ MPG without using EV, I'll be more than happy with it. Adding the EV will be a bonus and it has an MPGe readout as well. I've had it turned off during my hybrid MPG testing.

TOOOOOOOOO bad I don't own the standard Hybrid. MPG test data is nothing more than B/S lie's
anyways. They say the Toyota Prius C only gets 46 highway and 53 city with a combined score of 50.
If it's so accurate, why can I get a 53.4 combined score with mine ???? See my fuelly numbers ?

Are they wrong, or is it just an EST. ????? Quit trying to nit pic, it makes you look foolish and petty
and any idiot journalist can make any hybrid less then fuel efficient. Same as most new hybrid owners
do on this board. It takes the proper knowledge and technique to be a hypermiler and you should know at least that much.

The C-Max Energi clearly states a 43 MPG on gas only. If I can manage better (I have) it's the same as the Toyota MPG ratings numbers show. They're less than a realworld HM can achieve.

At least now we know what it takes for Ford to make a car that gets over 50 mpg. Just try not to pay much attention to the electricity consumed along the way.

Hahaha! Maybe you aren't paying attention or can't read ? I haven't been using the EV mode.
I've been running the car in EV later. It reserves 95% of the EV battery for later use. I've been using
my car as a standard hybrid on the very first tank to see what MPG numbers I could get from day one.
53.24 is pretty good for a full sized car with 225/50/17's and an extra 260 lbs. of battery that I haven't accessed yet  Today was the first time I ran it in EV mode. I charged the battery last night and made a two mile trip. Today I made it 26.7 miles on the remainder of the charge. That's 28.7 EV miles total and for the first time too. I turned on the MPGe gauge without resetting it from my first fill up. At the end of my EV battery, I shut the car off to record the trip data. Here's the two EV trip captures.

Here's the return trips MPGe data with the EV side of the battery depleted.
    It's pretty damn accurate too.
When I fueled up the first time, it said 52.7 mpg and it calculated out to 53.24 mpg 1.jpg

Here's the MPG data info after the EV battery was almost spent :D It was not reset. That's from the first fill up with 216 miles on the tank. 2.jpg

Your quote from a bit earlier:
It doesn't matter if you use the plugged-in energy in hybrid or EV mode, the point is you used it to get over 50 MPG.

I'm glad you like your car so far, and it's fuel economy is better than 95% of the other cars on the road. It does not compare well to a Prius in terms of efficiency or CO2/mile, but then no other car does.

If you want to share data that means something, you have to provide
    • Total miles driven
    • Total kWh from the wall*
    • Total Gallons consumed
*If you do not have this data, use kWh_from_the_car/0.85 for an estimate

No, I never plugged it in until I stared using the EV mode. I maintained a 17 mile charge from the original
charge after driving it to the gas station to fill it up. I plugged it in that night and charge it.
My statement was pointing to only having 1 place (home) to charge. I don't have access to anything for my work. Yes, it used 5% of the EV charge, but it was replenished by regen braking during my trips. Tuesday and Wednesday of last week I only drove the freeways for 160 mile round trip each day. The freeways mileage isn't very good with the 2.0L @ 65

Now that I'm using the EV and plugging in, I can get the data, but I need to wait until my next fill up due to the 250 miles used on this tank. I plan to keep track of both, so I can see how well it actually works.
The 2.0L engine is nowhere near as efficient as the 1.5L in the C, but using the regen helps make
    up for it.
Ford has MG1 and MG2 on two separate shafts. This is what let's it run in EV up to 85 mph.
The fact that I never loose my regen is a bonus with the EV battery. I live in CA with lots of hills.
The C would fill the HV battery and just drop the regen because it was full. Not this one. It add's
back to the EV portion of the battery.
In the demo I tested, I was able to regen back 2 miles of EV
on one of our bigger mountain roads. It seem like the Ford has a higher voltage input on the regen
side of the system. It recharges the HV battery with ease compared to the C. It's an odd feeling to
be in EV above 50 MPH

Being a fellow C-Max Energi owner, but in honesty not being a hypermiler, I don't think you go the 28 miles that it said. I don't think we did.

With everything there is a compromise. I'm sure if you drive the car gently you can get good mileage as in many other cars. The Energi is heavier, and has a higher cd, than a prius. There's no way around the physics. You're going to need more energy to move that around.

I think the balance comes from the "just right" battery size. On our level 2 charger it takes about 2 hours 15 minutes to get a full charge. This gives a nice 21 mile or so range. If your electricity rate is low or you run into a free charger, this is great. If you don't have a good rate or don't find chargers on your longer trips, of course this will start to hurt. I also like the idea of being able to drive up to 85 MPH on electricity alone. At our home the kWh rate is about $0.25. This is quite high but we had installed a 9.16 kW solar system, which would provide most of our electricity needs, before getting the car. I wanted someone in the house to take advantage of the situation so I recommended the car to my wife. The extra power as compared to a Prius is what made the switch from her 328i easier. I couldn't imagine her moving from a car with about 230 hp to 134 hp, or 98 hp when the hv battery is drained. That is too much of a difference to be comfortable with. (She was actually looking into a Prius c, and I think that the numbers would even be worse...)
