I understand the air filter needs to be changed every 30K miles. Is this the same as the air filter? Are their 2 separate air filters? If so, how often do they need to be changed?
Yes. The engine air filter is in the engine compartment and filters the engine intake air. This filter is inside an engine air filter housing. The cabin air filter is in the cabin and filters the outside air before being blown into the cabin. This filter is located behind the glove box. Check your car's Maintenancs Manual but both show checking at earlier intervals and changing at 30k miles.
Cabin air filter prevents pollen and other outside air contaminates from entering your breathing area while driving. Engine air filter prevents dirt, dust and rocks from entering your engine. One is necessary to keep a happy engine, the other isn't necessary, but keeps a happy driver.
Thanks for the reply, are these filters the same size and type? I couldn't find the details in the owners manual.
Totally different. You can get them from your dealer or from most parts stores. I prefer to get the engine air filter from the dealer and the cabin air filter from WalMart. Fram makes a good cabin air filter with charcoal.
Check Rockauto.com they have the cheapest OEM prices, but you do have to pay shipping. Haven't checked if they have any C parts as I'm not over 30k yet.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback!.. I changed my engine filter today. I had no idea how easy it was..
The cabin air filter is just as easy as the engine filter. The first time trick is pushing the glove box to one side to remove the "ears" that hold the glove box in place.
