Reading Bob Wilson's Post #135 on Page 7 of the thread New GenIII brake recall affects 87,000 cars | PriusChat, his service report specifically states replacing the Brake Booster Pump and the Master Cylinder.

Does your service report read the same as Bob's?

Yes, same part numbers, plus his report mentions inspection and replacement of the master cylinder. This indicates to me that the master cylinder may or may not be replaced depending on the inspection.

just got the letter from Toyota regarding 2010 prius ... if anyone interested I can scan it in... basically says make an appointment with dealer they will inspect and replace whatever needs be in case the part shows signs of trouble...

my question is this ... what if it is NOT showing sign of trouble NOW ... this could happen any time in the future

"Good" news for me that car in question was totaled and was replaced by a 2012 last November.. wondering how Toyota doesn't know that a car was declared total ...

Since I just got my master cylinder replaced a couple of months ago (and I finally got a check for half the total charge from Toyota), I'm going to have some interesting questions for my dealer when I get the official letter (which I haven't seen yet).

You should be able to take it back and they'll replace it if it fails in the future. I don't think there's a year/mileage coverage like TSBs.

Just checked the website that Den49 put in his post, & after putting in my ViN # it said there were no "open recalls" "or service bulletins" for the car bearing that VIN #.......? What I should see.....???? Mine is a 2010 delivered to me new (special ordered), on 11-29-09. So was manufactured some time before that..... Or have they just not got around to my VIN #?

taking mine in on saturday for the recall. the idiots at the phoenix camelback stealership didn't bother to bring it up last saturday when i had it in for my 45k service...arrrrrrgh!!!! incompetence and lack of initiative from these folks are almost enough to drive me nuts, not to mention the hours and hours i've spent and will have to spend getting the dang prius repaired. will provide an update after the service on saturday...

Look for your build date in the driver's door frame. If it is after "early October 2009" then this brake issue was evidently corrected and your car is not included. Your VIN identifies the build date so Toyota knows whether your car was included or not.

I Just Had an appointment yesterday to have the recall completed on my 2010 Prius V with 90,000 miles on the clock. I had heard about the recall on the news and then a few weeks later my local dealer (Which services the car) called me to inform me and schedule an appointment. I took it in at 1 pm Friday and didn't get it back until 10:30 am today (Saturday). I did not receive a loaner but they did shuttle me to my home (within 3 miles) and pick me up to get my car back. The total cost of labor was $1425, so glad I didn't have to pay that.

I took it today to my local dealer. I have not yet picked it up but I dropped the car around 9 am and he called me at 12pm. Not sure if they have done any replacements of parts. Will update.

Had my May 2009 built 2010 Prius inspected last week. They said it was one that needed the new booster pump assy and would have to order parts. The set me up for the repair today. They said allow 4 hours for the repair, they were finished in 2.5 hours. The work order shows 1 booster pump assy and 3 brake fluid, so I suspect that was enough for the system flush. Glad it is done, Car never had any braking problems.

Our booster pump and master cylinder were both replaced under the recall. I saw a copy of the dealer invoice for the repairs... $1,400 worth of work! The process was smooth and the brakes feel more responsive now. They also provided a 2013 Camry as a free loaner car. We were not overly impressed with the Camry and were glad to get the Prius back!

Mine was just inspected. Parts have to be ordered, so let the waiting game begin. Grrrr.
