have a 2012 PIP and was wondering several things about the GPS software: - how do I find out what version I have? - where can I find out what is the current or updated version? - Does anyone know the cost? - Before I purchase I want to make sure it has a new toll freeway that was added in NC. Is there a way of checking this on the new version? -Has anyone updated their version? (obviously if there is not a updated one this does not apply to anyone) Thank you! LadyPrius
The updates come out every year, late October, early November. At best, you have the 12 update, which came out last year.
Maybe there has been a drastic price drop in the last 9 years or so....But! There were so many complaints about the 2004 DVD that Toyota gave us 2005 updates. I went an pulled it out and found from the copyright notice that the geographic data was copyrighted 2003! So the data was two years old out of the box. For less than the cost of a update DVD, I was able to get a TomTom GPS that includes free quarterly map updates. My suggestion is to stick with what you got until you see a need to update it then either get one of the car GPS units or a smart phone GPS app. (Apparently Garmin is coming out with a bluetooth connected heads up display for their smartphone app.) BTW, both of these Toyota DVD's included a road that was closed off back in the 1980's.
Don't expect actual road updates quickly. Once construction is complete, it could take several years for the GPS maps to reflect the change. This is based on my ten year plus experience, with numerous factory and aftermarket systems. You'll probably see quicker updates with a Garmin, TomTom, system than factory due to sheer volume of customers, and update purchases.
Yes, this is the solution. Updates are at least twice a year, they pick up new roads fairly quickly and the features are far superior to the Prius Nav.
Thank you all for your responses. I do have a garmin with lifetime updates. I was hoping I did not have to go with the garmin but will do for now based on your emails. However, can someone tell me where I can find the version of the maps I have? thanks PriusLand.
Or better yet...smartphones, Android specifically. The Google navigation is always updated and now alerts you to accidents, delays, and construction. Plus the screen is bigger and clearer. And you can talk to it.
Too bad I can't put the Garmin screen on the nave screen on my prius pip. I do hate when others have control! LadyPrius
Yes, Android I do have a smartphone but the screen is 4.5 and would prefer it to be a bit larger. Will have to see what would be best and safe while driving. thanks Markabele.
Fluxuated: here are the details. this is the only expressway in North Carolina with a toll. Thanks for checking See website below. It will not allow me to put this link because of being a new member (I understand). Do a search on 'Triangle Expressway) and you will see a web site by the Dept of Transportation (dot.gov) that will have the details.
I found the website, but which section should I be looking for? I'm happy to look it up, just need it narrowed down a bit.
All of triangle expressway which is all of the toll expressway. no particular section it is all of the triangle. thanks.
Your dealer should be able to give you an update file for each yearly map update. This update file gives all of the street, highway and residential development additions state-by-state. This file should be able to tell you whether the Triangle Expressway is included in any recent updates. The 2013 update should be coming out in the next couple of months in case the 2012 update does not include the expressway.
