33 miles is not much of a sample. You should do a whole tank of gas (or several) to get a good idea of overall mpg. I average in the low 40's over many tanks of gas as I live several miles up in the hills and then do short trips around town. When I get on the freeway and do a 150 mile trip on mostly level terrain I get over 50!
Oh I will keep track as I drive. It was clear that the tire pressure correction did play a part in the mpg's.
Results of my trip. I drive 200 miles mostly hill country. My best previous was 50.0 and 49.9 driving 60 to 65 mph. This time i drove 70 to 75 the speed limits for about half the trip and 60 to 65 the rest of the time and my new energy savers rolled to a mpg of 57.1. Quite a difference
This is an excellent thread for us new folks. I enjoyed the description from Ken on the Prius warm-up modes. I had no idea it was so deep. My previous experience in switching a VW TDI from non-LRR Goodyear’s to Michelin Primacy MXV4 Green X tires found a 1-3mpg improvement. The biggest improvement was ride and low road noise over the Goodyear tires. Unfortunately for Prius owners, the 195/65R15 size Michelin Primacy is not a Green X LRR tire. Tire Rack did a very good test on the various LRR tires, but unfortunately they did not include a non-LRR tire for comparison.
Not everyone like LRR. I could tolerate it for the sake of mpg. The ride is less comfortable on LRR tires. But if that doesn't bother you, LRR is great.
