Ok so i have realized that the sun visor is completely unless in my car... it only blocks a few inches of the window while the sun beat me in the face Does anyone have any good suggestions?
I haven't done it to my Prius, at least not yet. But on my old Honda Fit, with similar huge windshield and rather small visors I had a Tint Eyebrow installed on the front windshield. Laws vary as to how wide you can make one, and to tint darkness. So make an educated decision if you do. But I would say it helped a LOT with my Honda Fit. The situations where I HAD to even use the visor declined to almost near zero. Most of the time if I found myself driving into the sun, or with glare, all I had to do was glance above and through the eyebrow strip. I seldom even needed to reach for the visor. I'm relatively tall. So using the strip like a reverse bifocal glare strip....was easy and worked well. I felt it kept the vehicle cooler, kept light from shining in directly on the steering wheel and front of the dash. Plus I liked it when I wore sunglasses, as that strip would appear even darker. Some auto accessory departments and places sell clip on extensions that you can clip on to visors. I did experiment with them. I never really found one I liked...too bulky, prone to be knocked of kilter or fall off. So I don't recommend those.
I'm sorry i forgot to add that its only when i need to use it to block the sun coming in the drive side window
i dont see why Toyota didnt put a visor that extends in there... just about every vehicle theses days has that
You can buy an extender on ebay for about $9. All it is is a piece of plastic with a couple elastic bands. I bought some elastic at Walmart ($.99), cut a piece of matboard to a size that fit. It works just fine. (I just happened to have some matboard lying around, you could use almost anything - cardboard, plastic sheet - anything fairly stiff and easily cut)
yeah that is exactly what i was thinking about doing before i made this post... i just wanted to see if anyone had any mods or clever things they did.
I have a 5% tint strip on the top of my windshield which actually blocks a larger area than the visors. From the side, window visors help a little, but they're only a couple inches of coverage. It still blocks better than nothing.
I was going to say "sit on a phone book", but then I saw your clarification about the side window being the issue. A friend stapled a manila folder around his visor. Staples only along the bottom edge. It makes a sleeve which slides halfway off nicely to increase the length and still stays securely in place. SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 ? 2
This is what I did and I am pleased with the degree of coverage and cost. Amazon.com: 1 pair Visormates - Side Window Sun Visor Extenders for Toyota Owners: Automotive
Haha then that's all that counts!! Haha But I may have a more elegant solution here in a few days..!! Stay tuned!!
