I would recommend not getting one. They do more damage by rubbing on the paint than any stone dings will ever do. Just get yourself the matching paint tube and touch up as needed.
I have 3M plastic film, covered almost entire hood, front bumper including fenders and 1/3 of sun-roof. I covered rock panels as well and door edges but I wished I've covered the side doors as well it would protect from those small scratches on parking lots :-/
I have the 3M Clear Bra, it was installed when I had my tint done... I've had it on previous vehicles and keeps the front stone chip free....
It looks like this " ". Almost invisible. Never had it or saw the need. All cars are subject to paint chips on the leading surfaces (leading edge on aircraft).
The film is clear and will not show up a photo. Attached is an image from the U.S. Toyota website. My understanding is that the Toyota dealer where we bought our Prius applies the film to all the cars it sells. We were not explicitly charged for it but I'm sure we paid for it one way or another. The film provides excellent protection - no paint damage at all after one year and 8,000 miles.
I have this 3M clear bra on the hood and all front section but you can only see it up close. You can buy pre-cut of the whole sheet of various sizes and cut it yourself.
Aloha, Here's some pics of the car the Pius replaced. We all make sacrifices for the ones we love from time to time. The third image shows some "rock damage". Only to the film, not the paint! BTW, Also have protective film (thicker) on the headlights.
