Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and have a question. I'm currently leasing a 2011 Honda Civic Coupe that ends April 2014. Well, today, my brother and I went to a Toyota dealer to check out the Prius C so that I could start to figure out what car I wanted next. Well, of course, the dealer started trying to talk me into trading in my lease now instead of waiting until next year. After about 3 hours of negotiating, we came up with the following deal for a C1. Sticker Price: $19,899 Govt. Fees: $237.35 Taxes: $1,598.32 Doc Fee: $80.00 Total: $21,814.67 The buyout for my lease is $12,765.58. I got him to offer me $12,000 trade-in, leaving me $765.58 in the hole for that car. I would be making a $2,000 down payment. So, Total: $21,814.67 Lease left over: $765.58 Downpayment: -$2,000 New Total: $20,580.25 I'm purchasing this car instead of leasing again, and I qualify for 0% interest for 60 months. I would be keeping this car for as long as I can drive it. So, any opinions? I was super nervous about making a mistake, so I told the dealer that I wanted to sleep on it. What I worry about most is the lease trade in. Is it a good idea to take the loss, or should I try to sell to a private party? It only has 12,200 miles, but has a small dent and scratch on the hood from a flying rock, and the bottom of the bumper is scraped up in a couple of places from parking to close to the curb. Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Doesn't seem like a good deal to me... Plenty of people have gotten c2-c3's for that price. I would look at the option differences between the c1 and c2, just a little more money will get you a better interior, cruise, better stereo, etc. Might be hard to get a real good deal considering you're trading in a lease. I found the best price at truecar.com when I bought my c.
you shouldn't pay sticker price... and that c1's sticker price is around the price I made my dealer go down to from my c2's 21k window price on cars.com, and many other car selling/advertising websites, lot of dealers offering c1's at around 18.4k, so you should try to get your dealer to match that and your in California the land of abundant prius's, so shop around more and do more searching online before making a deal
I ordered a Prius C 4 and I pick it up today! The MSRP was $24,155, selling price $22,062. That selling price includes a cargo tray and rear bumper protector. Subtotal was $23,984.52. that includes all taxes, fees, an cost of new plates. I will have a down payment of $4,000 and a college rebate of $750 bringing my price to $19,234.52!
For me, if I am buying a new car I want it to have everything I want or may want. I went with the C4 it had the softex seats which I think are mandatory as a nanny and pet owner. Heated mirrors and seats, navigation, fog lights, alloy wheels and many other features not included on the C1. If you look at your selling price and then mine it's $2,163 difference for a lot of additional features. Maybe you don't need or want them but its worth researching and shopping around for a better price no matter what trim you get.

Hi everyone. I ultimately decided against the Prius C. I figured out that I would only be saving around $20 per month in gas, and my insurance would go up $20 per month. It wouldn't be cost effective for me at all. Plus, it's too small for my needs. I ended up getting a Honda Fit which is perfect for me, and thanks to Robtco99's suggestion, I was able to get it for $1500 below MSRP. Thanks everyone for all of your input. You helped a ton.
How much was your Fit? Can't believe the difference in the prices were better for it per month, but congrats on your decision. You are the only one that has to be happy with it and you seem to be.
The Fit Sport was $17,213 before doc fees, taxes, title and registration. Total $18,920 OTD. Plus, my insurance went down $10 per month.
Some dealers are willing to go below MSRP for newer models. Also not financing or making cash/trade-in deal there is a lot of wiggle room for both you and dealer to come out on top. I got my C1 on Friday for 17500 plus tax.
Oh, so a little bit cheaper, cool. Hope the gas savings wouldn't have been close enough to make the difference, but you did say you don't drive excessive. What color did you go with?
Yeah, I only fill my tank once a month. I got the blue raspberry metallic. It looks great! I'm very happy with it.
