my partner had a 2004? volvo, nice car. had a lot of niggling problems that drove him crazy. in and out of the dealership constantly. everything was covered under warranty and he dumped it before it ran out. nothing major though.

Unlike the Scion, our Prius has that big honkin' traction battery behind the rear seat that absorbs rear cabin crash energy. Also, the 12V lead acid battery in the rear helps absorb crash energy. The floor line of our Prius is higher than the Scion so a rear-end collision will have more metal to crumple and absorb crash energy.
So your profile list your car as "Other Non-Hybrid." So you really don't have a 2011 Prius?
You should as the fuel bills along with the depreciation will be the perfect reward for this posting. The smaller Prius have half the fatal accident rate as the USA fleet. If you want to 'set your hair on fire' and sell the mythical 2011 Prius that is not listed in your profile, please do but don't expect this Prius owner to follow.

    Bob Wilson,

I have updated to profile with the right info since I missed that when I joined in 9/2012 (when I got my prius) - hope this helps with your confusion. My prius is pretty real (already attached some pics earlier in the thread) and is parked in my damn driveway at the moment ... (see below). Now, as you have read throughout the thread, information about rear-crash safety is non-existent or really limited for the Prius and even more the Prius also got a poor rating on the new IIHS crash tests (frontal small overlap) though it was the Prius V.

Now, my experience and my questions are legit and have been addressed to some extent by others. I realize that the Scion in question has less than the prius in the back still ...since I have a prius (real ...mind you) I wanted to ask the folks in this forum for their thoughts b/c I have been worried since that day.

Arguing with our resident sophist troll is futile at best. Anytime someone has a thought that goes against his "Prius is the solution for the world's problems" thought process he comes out of the woodwork. His favorite counter argument is "if you even own a Prius", which he has used here.

Now that he has discovered you and this thread, your best bet is the use of the ignore button, or else it will get killed like so many others he "participates" in.

A Suburban is great, pretty extreme though going in the wrong direction! I actually rented one for my family to drive from NYC to MASS to see my grandma. There were 7 of us, one little baby. It was really a great suv. We got like 12 mpg on the highway with a/c on. It was bad. About $125 to fill up too.

Why do people argue on a site like this? I never understood that kind of behavior on a forum that is suppose to be of "like minded" people trying to get helpful or useful info. That's my reason for being here. I hate to see people who don't know each other fighting like cats & dogs. Don't waste your breath my friends. Come on and grow up.

    Who is fighting :) ?

I thought about the suburban too... Also the Traverse and Durango but those dealership are offering down to nothing for the Prius.. I will look to sell on my own...but after filling the tank today ($30) it is clear why such car is a gem hence the internal conflict.

Thanks so much to all for sharing your opinions.

I have the same internal conflict in my mind. I do think the Prius is a very safe car though for it's size and what it is. It also will save a lot of money, at least for my family. We are both working adults and anything helps each month. The Suburban, Durango, Grand Cherokee or anything of the sort will be super expensive to operate. Plus, I personally don't think that any of them have the reliability record of Toyota and the Prius. Personally, that matters a great deal to me. I can't afford to have to sit in a car dealership all the time. I have two little one's and that's the last place I want to be. over 16,000 miles and only oil changes on my car.

Hi. A couple of updates... The little girl, Chloe, didn't survive her injuries and passed about 3 weeks ago. I have moved on from my Prius into a SUV... I know... I know... :-/

I had a few accessories from the Prius that I will be posting for sale relatively cheap...some haven't even arrived from Japan...

I want to thank all of you and the many others who share your knowledge and experience day to day in this forum. You are a group of very smart people.

The Prius is a great piece of engineering. I will keep an eye out for the gen 4 and may get back in the game.

    Thx
    Carlos

do you have a link to the story of the particular crash? how old was the little girl? I'm curious as well what you got to replace it.

I agree. It was a surprise to me when I read it in a previous update. I am not sure how much that contributed to her injuries since it says that "it appeared that the seat wasn't..." and I haven't seen or heard of the official or final conclusions.

As authorities, they have to word it that way or they'll get in trouble. But, if true, that's a damning piece of information that likely contributed to the baby's death.

They have 5 star NCAP rating, the top rating. End of story. There are more things to worry about, just drive as safe as you can.

Top marks for helping out at the accident

You don't have to worry too much about being hit by a pickup or SUV in europe.

i like the dodge durango. especially the new one with the LED lights on the back. that looks pretty great. the gas mileage though is insanely bad, even on the v6. i would go with a jeep grand cherokee. my sister just got a 2014 grand cherokee limited, it has teh new 8 speed auto transmission. pretty smooth. highly luxurious. she is getting about 19 mpg i believe combined. not bad for a truck/suv that large and powerful. the new v6 pentistar (sp?) is really very good.

Needed the extra space that the Durango has so we can exchange cars if needed... We have a 10yrs old minivan and now the Durango. Plus, I got a good deal on the Durango (at almost midnight on 7/31! They really needed to sell!)
