I simply tightened it until tight, but some people like to play it safe and torqued it to 37 foot pounds. Not too concerned as it's not like it'll come loose if the nut were to fall off as the steering wheel is held on by splines.

Doesn't matter as you've already marked the center line. Yes, it's held on tight. Pull on the end of the ratchet and use your body for added leverage.

I had to yank on it repeatedly for like one minute before it'd pop out, but I didn't use a wheel puller.

I just got my steering wheel out. Pulled as hard as I can and all of a sudden I'm flying backwards. Now I am just waiting for my friend to bring me a torque wrench. But he won't be off for another 2.5 hours. I'm thinking about just tightening it without one...

Btw...does it worry no one that the old steering wheel was so hard to pull off...but the new one just slides right on?

Also, I broke a tab on the steering wheel controls. The long cylindrical one that goes into one of the holes. Might have to buy a new set.

    Thanks for all your help!

one last question..how do you know when you have the new steering wheel all the way in? I pushed as hard as I can to install it..is that good enough? There is a good gap between the back steering wheel cover and this part attached: PhotoMay1935911PM.jpg

The wheel turns against that part so it can't be flush and a gap is normal or it'll rub.

ok so installed! thanks for all your help 32kcolors. only thing I am worried about is that the steering wheel is not on all the way down the shaft. It probably has 1/2 cm gap and I ended up torquing it at 33 pounds. What do you'll think? ok? thanks!

Tap, tap, tap... bump, bump, bump.... not just a straight pull,:

Whether it be the wrench handle or the back of the wheel (which the Japanese call a handle :).... a firm tap, tap, tap or a bump, bump, bump... the nut will pop loose, the wheel will pop off....

Prius-wise, with the socket on the nut that holds on the wheel (not the nut that holds onto the wheel), sharp taps with the ball peen hammer on the end of the socket handle....

When the nut's off, then with the palms of the hands, sharp bumps on alternate sides of the back of the wheel, trying to knock the wheel back, up toward your nose :)

    Worked for me.

(Otherwise, 60s terminology... you will have to google Carol Doda... North Beach... and the like :)

    a couple of questions

    1) will this steering wheel void the warranty of the car.

    2) will it fit on a 2013 prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v, NOT an uppercase v) 2.

    3) is anyone willing to install this on my 2013 prius v (again, lowercae v for the Prius v) 2. willing to pay for your time. sounds like a job less than an hour apparently. will take you out to lunch too.

im in the LA area. close to redondo beach.

My dealer, somewhat distant from L.A., didn't bat an eye at the push-button JDM shifter, nor the JDM steering wheel.

You can check part numbers... but I'd be surprised if it did not fit (small comfort...).

There are several pictorials on here for D-I-Y... bit of a commute for me, but I'm sure someone will volunteer for compensatory lunch, Prius chatting, etc. :)
