Reading the VW Hybrid Forum seems the Jetta Hybrid if they are lucky are getting mid 30's to low 40's MPG. Most mid to low 30's. They talk about how fast there Jetta Hybrid is compared to a Prius. It uses premium gas. Plus if it's the same Automatic Tranmission as the regular Jetta, it will need a $600 service evry 40K miles. I don't get it? Why buy a Hybrid if you are not trying to get the best Gas mileage? I would buy another Jetta Diesel before I get a Jetta Hybrid.
C-Max, Civic Hybrid do not get their EPA claims either. Is the Prius the only car Joe Blow can drive normally and hit the EPA rating?
I made a thread that most people ignored, that hit upon this same idea. It's THE PRIUS stupid.... | PriusChat I agree. I really don't get VW's approach of almost making and marketing a "Hybrid" for people who don't want a Hybrid. Toyota has had phenomenal success, making Hybrids for people who want Hybrids. But whatever. At least the offerings are expanding. And I'm for pushing the envelope even if it is going in directions I sometimes do NOT understand.
vdub is conflicted. a lot of companies are worried about their non green reputation and make half hearted attempts to try to look good. coupla years ago, they were making fun of prius.
All that aside, VW electrical systems aren't all that great to begin with, so I certainly wouldn't want to rely on any VW hybrid system.
When I was researching to buy mine, it seemed that way. One of the big reasons I bought it. For what it's worth, the Civic Hybrid came close if I recall. The new one anyway. It also happened all the time with all ICE cars. The Civic, Corolla and Mazda 3 were the few that seemed to perform as advertised for most regular Joes. I determined that with a mix of looking at Fuelly and fueleconomy.gov reports.
If you want 50MPG or better and dont want to spend 30K+ you buy a Prius. EOS! If you want 30-40MPG and want to spend 30K you buy VW, Ford, Mazda and so on If you want to go fast you dont buy a Hybrid Its really not rocket science!
VW is pulling the wool over our eyes. Diesel is not clean. It needs to be put in the same category as ICE
Well, the Euro emissions specs are behind in comparison to the US when it comes to diesels. I did think that DPFs were required. These will reduce the particulates to below that of a gasoline car. Yes, gasoline cars emit particulates. It's how the tail pipe gets black inside.
VW hybrid.......its a start for them, but I would never buy one. BMW has taken a shot at it too, and have a long way to go! Its too bad that some just can't see the Prius as the only real Hybrid today. I work too hard to waste my money on a test bed hybrid!
