Hello forum. I'm hoping someone can help me on the electrical wiring for this install. I purchased a rear bumper protector with LED from Japan. It came with no instructions. I looked all over the forum and unable to find anyone with this accessory, only the non LED version. Anyways the protector has a cable connector and a additional wire extension. There are only two wires. RED and BLACK. I'm planning to tap into the trunk light. I pryed the trunk lamp today and found a WHITE and RED color wire. My question is which wire should I tap into? My guess is tap RED to the RED trunk light wire, and BLACK to ground? If anyone can provide some expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Below is a photo of the LED bumper protector.
Thanks for checking on this. So the case here is, Tap my RED wire to the RED trunk light wire and ground the BLACK wire to the chassis?
Yuki, just Ground the BLACK wire with the WHITE wire is fine. So you have the RED (+) & BLACK (-) in one place by the harness.
I bought my on yahoo.jp auctions. You can copy/paste this to the search: "プリウス リアバンパーステップガード LED" However it appears only blue led is offered. Works out well for me because I have the USDM illuminated blue door sills that match. Maybe you can replace and solder in white leds.
Installed it this morning. Ran the wire along the existing loom behind the panel and tapped into the trunk light. Satisfied with the protector, especially for the price paid.
5900 JPN yen. That's roughly $60. Then reshipped from the inlaws in Japan to the states about which cost about $30 via SAL. Still cheaper than the JDM oem Toyota elegant version which sells for 11550 yen ~ $120. Plus this one has an LED and the oem one doesn't.
