Took it down to 7miles remaining before I panicked and crept into a gas station. Fill up was 8.3 gallons, so obviously had at least another two gallons in there. Maybe I'll be a reckless PiP owner and cross into the 0 mile zone next time :)

Remember, you can go well past the 0, but you have to use one of several ways to gauge where you are at.

There are two failsafe ways. Both require resetting of the tripometer and ratio screens.

    1. Drive until your miles on the tank equals 9xMPG.

    2. Drive until your ratio screen says 9 gallons used.

Isn't the ratio screen just estimating 50 mpg? So, once you have driven 450 HV miles, it switches to 9 gallons?

I drove from San Diego to Portland, then back to San Diego last month and on my way back to San Diego I was trying to space my fillups for the best prices and at one point ended up in the Shasta mountains when my miles to empty hit 0. I was able to drive another 45 miles before I pulled into a gas station and filled up with 9.3 gallons. I had known from past drives that I was going to be able to make it, but I still had a fair amount of adrenaline going when I was pushing it further than I ever have in the past.

I'm wondering if that is true for all PiPs. I showed one solid bar remaining this morning and put 9.5 gallons in to fill it up. Capacity is supposed to be 10.6 gals. The computer showed 65 mpg, and my calculator indicated 9.3 gallons used to achieve that mpg. This is pretty consistent with what I usually see.

Light flashed. Drove 74 miles 1 mile cruising range 9.31 gallons to fill up the tank. I'm guessing another 30 miles would be achievable. But I could be wrong

I like using a ScanGuage II to see real time Gallons in the tank. It gets a little hairy watching the raw fuel guage jump around; 2 gallons, no 1.7, what 0.5, now 1.1. You can get a good reading this way if you are not moving and are on level ground. I don't think I will ever get the wife's PIP down to blinking tick before filling, so I can't check how many gallons left when last tick starts blinking, but it should be slightly less than the 2 gallons reported by Gen III and v (wagon) owners. I say slightly less because PIP has a slightly smaller gas tank.

Wow! I read it somewhere on here, and then have observed it myself by refueling a couple of times. I have refueled about 9 times since I bought the car (last November) and have never managed to put much over 7 gallons in it. (unless the wife had it) Then again, we aren't allowed to pump our own gas here in Oregon, are you topping off?

Yes, I fill it at least as far as the indicated gallons used calculated as in my prior post, and usually a few extra tenths beyond that point.

Does anyone know on the PIP of you have 0 mile range showing but a full charge will the car shutdown due to having no more gas if ice is activated?

i don't see why there wouldn't be at least a limp mode, but don't know for sure.

allows you to drive car at a slower speed to get off road, to a gas station, etc.

You may already know this, but remember that once the DTE range is 0 you still have quite a few miles left...even burning gas.
