People with illnesses aren't happy but doctors are still in business. What is my point? I already stated my point in the original message. Did you stop reading after two sentences?

Tim, I just read that Toyota is adding more incentive or rebate money to the Prius Plug-In for conventional financing. One dealer is advertising $4,000 rebate and Zero percent finance. That just changed over the past few days, I think. FYI.

Yes, some people who see doctors are unhappy. Others get cured or get a broken bone fixed and are happy.
Some car buyers get a bad deal or get a huge service bill and are unhappy. Others get good transportation and are glad that the cars provide the freedom to travel where they want to go. Some people are actually happy when a damaged car gets fixed.

Lawrence Toyota in NJ has the base Plug-in for $159/ mo with ZERO down. They also have it for $49/mo with $2599 down. I would normally be against leasing, but I have some great rebates ($2000 clean air, $2500 federal, $1500 state) in my area so this is tempting. Not to mention that I would get my $1000 gas card from HSN! That is $7000 in rebates/giftcards. Now I just need to figure out the logistics of getting the car from NJ to CA!

Ohh man, correct me if I am wrong, but if the vehicle is leased, then I cannot claim the state and federal tax credits. (I don't lease so I am not used to these certain stipulations). I would still get my $2k clean air rebate and $1k gas card. May have to do it anyway.

Correct - no tax credits if you lease.

To add to G4 comments, so is every other business that sells a product or service. The only way to be sure you're not being ripped off is to walk, go naked, sleep under the stars, and starve.

No, you are correct. However, some Toyota dealers are offering some hefty cash on the lease deals for the PIP. As it was explained to me, part of this incentive money is simply Toyota "giving" the tax credit to the customer. So, you are correct about the filing of your own tax return. But, check out the details with your dealer.
The bottom line is that automakers are looking at leasing in a different way. Like it or not.

Hmm I think I may drive to NJ! Haha thats a really great price. I think you need to go on a LONG coast to coast road trip to break in your new PIP you get from NJ!

Be careful of the offer listed above. Smoke and mirrors. Ad says 159 month for 24 months with ZERO down but you still must pay 650 acquisition fee, doc fee 249 and applicable taxes.

I tried to get this deal in person and they could not do it without $2800 in the form of cash or trade otherwise lease was 250 month!

If it sounds to good as the saying goes.

Hi Tim, im new here and for a living im a Car Lease broker.

Im Getting for myself a Prius Plug-in the coming week, The northeast region has a $7,300 Lease cash bonus from toyota for the month of August.

Most of my leases (including my own) are structured with Tax's Capped into the payments and and DAS The 1st Month payment, Bank Fee (650) and DMV fees (Approx 350).

Optional is Toyota's wear and tear waiver and GAP insurance coverage. (395+195)

Total Monthly payments Should be Approx 250 per month.

FYI the 24 month lease program is cheaper then 27, 30 or 36.

If you have any questions let me know.

I'm not sure about my favorite color in the PIP line up.

Tim, the original Peter, did you end up with a PIP lease?

Are there any progress reports on successful PIP leases?

as can be seen from the posts here, a lease is just a gimmick

if you run the math…if there are lease deals, that means that there are straight-up financing deals too. don't forget the 2500 federal IRS credit which you can only claim if the car is yours.

Yeah, I will keep that in mind. The financing deals are there. But, unless you put down a sizable amount for a down payment, you are going to be upside down on a new car finance contract in no time.

The deals are all over the place. Even Mini dealers have some nice financing offers right now. I will check out the KIA and Mini offers before meeting with the Toyota dealer again this week. A buddy of mine just did a "sign and drive" for a VW Passat. He's a banker by trade.

Of course, the ideal way to buy a car is with cash.

Ya, you might be upside down for a bit, but that is a reality with buying any new car. And as stated many times, buying is always better than leasing. And no, the ideal way to buy a car will always be 0% financing. Why would you pay cash when you can use Toyota's cash for free while yours gains interest?
