Suppressing Backup Beep

    Some years ago I was an active member of the Priuschat forum, but somehow drifted away. Well, I'm back, with a new one.

    I have just acquired a 2013 Prius v Three, having traded my 2006 Prius for it. There was a protocol one could follow to disable certain beeps, such as the seatbelt beeps, and not have to listen to that incessant noise. I would like to disable the seatbelt beeps, as well as that hyper-annoying backup signal. Can anyone tell me if there is a similar protocol for this Prius?

    There is for the Gen III Liftback, I've done it on mine. It uses a ScanGauge II and the XGauge functions. There's a Google document on the forums here, you can search for, with all the info. Good Luck!

    Thanks to all who answered. Jimbo, your admonition is well-taken. My salesman and I did talk about it during our negotiations, he saying that the sales staff could not do it, but that Service could. I'm well introduced at my dealership's service department, having my 2006 Prius, and my 2006 Highlander Hybrid serviced there,exclusively. I am at the dealer's service department right now, having the backup beep disabled. I don't think they are going to charge me for it, but we shall see.
    In addition, I have ordered a ScanGuageII through Amazon, and will attend to the seat belt dings myself. Couldn't talk my service manager into doing it. The suggestion made him look furtively about.
    There seems to be plenty of information and data available for the ScanGuage II, if one searches for it. I'll need it, because some of the talk was absolute jibberish to me.

    As a follow-up, it should be noted that the dealer did not charge me for disabling most of the backup beep. I say, "most", because it still sounds one beep, when reverse is selected. Seems like I've seen something about that in ScanGuage discussion. In any event, one beep does not annoyance create, so I can live with it. Besides, my 20-pound cat, Babe, is accustomed to resting under the Prius, and the single beep is enough to mover her on.

    That IS the Beep disabled. It is SUPPOSED to do 1 beep. What is being disabled is the continuous beep. They did it right. The seatbelt beep however can be completely disabled, you never hear that.

    Sure. I can only tell you how to disable it, with a ScanGauge II, since that's what I used to disable mine. You'll need to add 2 X Gauge's. The values are as follows:

    Seat Belt Beep Disable
    TXD 07C03BA700
    RXF 047B15A70000
    RXD 2008
    MTH 000100010000
    Name SBS

    Seat Belt Beep Query
    TXD 07C021A7
    RXF 046115A70000
    RXD 2808

    40 Disabled 00 Enabled

    If you don't have a ScanGauge II, I strongly suggest picking one up. They are well worth it. Good Luck!

    Can you explain where and/or when you use the 40 or 00 to enable/disable the beep? I managed to shut if off, now I would like to be able to turn it back on but I don't know how.

    I think these custom settings are volatile, ie: if you disconnect the battery for a few seconds, everything goes back to basics. Not 100% sure though.

    I've never lost customized settings on a vehicle made by Toyota when a battery was disconnected or replaced regardless of who customized the settings - dealer, independent repair shop or me. My understanding is that these settings are stored in nonvolatile ECU memory as are the tire pressure sensor ID codes.

    Gen2 has a number of settings that are volatile, such as the backup beep, seatbelt, and radio station buttons. Gen3 backup beep is nonvolatile (don't know about radio station selections).
