The Prius van/wagon goes by a number of different names depending on country of sale but in Japan it is the Prius Alpha: Toyota Prius Alpha launches in Japan; delivery delays expected
Looks like the same ratio of prii i see here in North Vancouver on a daily basis. My guess is 75% of the taxi cabs here are prii in one form or another. Seems most of the older gen 2 are being phased out for the v, i see far more prius v taxis lately than gen2/gen 3 liftbacks combined. That last picture, 2 prius v, a liftback and, a nissan leaf/versa? cool The prius v must look like a small bus driving around tokyo, i remember when i was there a couple years ago the average vehicle size was much smaller than here. Lots of scion IQ size cars, and of course those tiny pickup trucks.
Although I'm living around Tokyo, I did not have so much chance to see Prius Alpha in taxi service. The exclusive car for taxi service, Crown Comfort is widely used in Japan. I can see many Prius (2nd and 3rd) now, and Alpha is increasing, however it's not so much. In my feeling, once in a day. Smaller car is probably better for narrow Japanese roads. BTW, some Prius Alpha in taxi service can use LPG as fuel by customization.
I was in San Diego two months ago. It seemed like half the cabs at the airport were Vs. Here in NYC...not so much.
