So today I was at Kmart Pharmacy and when you get a prescription filled you get a coupon for BP gas with a discount of 10 cents a gallon with a max of 20 gallons. Also I use my Costco card and get 4% back on gas [was 5% in the old days] What do you do for your gas discounts?
Some grocery chains also sell gas. They reward their frequent shoppers with points which could be used for gas discounts.
In north Virginia we use Giant foods (grocery) discount for Shell. Which reminds me I have to fill up today w/ 50-cents off/gallon. Safeway chain gives the discount for Exxon.
I use Kroger"s food store here in Houston. When you accumulate a 100 points equals 100 dollars spent you get 10 cents a gallon off at Shell gas stations. Works for me.
Our local Price Chopper and Sunoco do this but with 9 gallon fillups, saving 10 or 20 cents a gallon really doesn't make a lot of difference.
I shop at Kroger. They have a rewards card program that gives discounts for fuel every $100.00 spent per month. The fuel reward can be used at Kroger gas pumps or $0.10 off per gallon at Shell. We choose Shell for fill ups. I'm paying about $30.00 per fill up every two weeks on 89 Plus grade. I've always used 89 Plus in my other rides. I've had my Prius for a month now and am using 89 Plus - do y'all think it matters?
If you use 87 instead of 89 you will get better mpg. higher octane burns 3% faster and no extra power is gained. (That is my understanding). You certainly are wasting some money by using higher octane than necessary. 85 octane works fine in mountainous areas and is many times available. At sea level 89 octane may be called for. The lower the terrain, the more octane you should use (denser air).
Many people got a prius to save money on gas. 10-20 cents a gallons saving is part of the equation, I would think.
