How to remove a smudge from my seat

Discussion in 'Prius c Care, Maintenance and Troubleshooting' started by Deleted member 111882, Jul 22, 2013.

I went on a trip this past weekend and I guess one of the corners of a box which I put on the passenger's seat had a sticky tab...and it left a smudge on my seat. I can't get it out.

When I try to rub it out, it just makes my finger feel sticky, and I get a friction burn.

I've tried a damp rough microfiber cloth (the kind you use on laptop screens) and I've even tried an upholstry cleaner, which seems to help just a little, but I feel like whatever it is just spreads out.

How do I remove these kinds of weird smudges?

(I'm not really looking for a seat cover. I just want the smudge out, or as much "out" as possible without ruining the cloth.)

Try Folex. Folex got a sludgy oil spot out of my seat a few months ago. I was certain that it'd be stained permanently.

I typically buy it at the local grocery store, but google shows that Lowe's carries it.

I had a rather large grease stain on my passenger seat and I used Scotchgard Auto Carpet and Fabric Spot and Stain Remover and it got it right out. Since then I've used it to remove several stains and it works really well without any discoloring or awful smell. You can pick it up at just about any auto parts store for less than 10 dollars.

  4. What kind of cloth/rag/sponge would I use with that, to wipe the seat?

Well I just used a microfiber cloth. I saturated the whole light part of the seat let it sit for about 5 minutes and wiped it. Then you can repeat if necessary. Last time my car was serviced it got a dark grease stain on the cloth of the door panel it took about 3 applications but it came off.

  6. I tried using Folex. That didn't work. It just made the spot a little wet.

I couldn't find exactly that bottle of Scotchgard spot and stain remover after looking in two stores, so I went out and got Scotchguard Oxyclean Fabric Spot and Stain Remover. That didn't work.

If anything, now the spot (really two separate spots) are a bit larger and slightly darker. The little fibers are dark tinted.

Any other suggestions? Should I try using more Woolite?

For a cheap alternative you can try 409 carpet cleaner. Only a couple bucks a can Wal-Mart or similar stores.

I used to clean carpets and furniture for a living and this stuff works every bit as good as the professional stuff.

Also, blot first then scrub, and always use a cloth that won't bleed (white microfiber is best).

I second the Folex. Works great!

  10. Well here's an update, before I go buy any more products, I've been going back to Folex, Scotchguard, and Woolite, and I use a moist scrub sponge with a dab of soap, and I've made some progress I guess:

    20130805Smudge.jpg

The smudge has cleaned up a bit, but it's still clearly there, as two separate stain-like spots. You can see a ring around where I was just cleaning, since I just took the picture, and that comes out.

I use one or more of the three products each day on the area. I let it soak, then try scrubbing it out. I might repeat a few times, then give up and try again the subsequent day. The spot dries out in the sun. Each day seems to help a little, but it's still an eye sore.

Oh and separate question: Once I get it out, Is there some kind of "seal" spray, like what the dealer uses, that I can spray on the seats to prevent spots from appearing again?

let it sit for a little bit before you start rubbing it out.............

  13. I think that helped. I tried using 409 and followed the directions on it... and that helped still a little more.

So, I just wanted to give you all an update. After another few days of cleaning, I think that I've got almost 100% of the whatever-they-ares out of my seat. They're still there, but faintly, and no longer an eyesore. Woolite doesn't seem to work anymore. Fortunately the cleaners that I used (Woolite, Folex, Scotchguard, 409) protected the color in the fabric of the seat, so I know that I can use them again.

    As for the seal...

This stuff seems to work really well.

After soaking, while still damp, use a vacuum cleaner through an absorbent cloth. You need something to absorb the stain from the seat material.

So the purpose of getting our Prius C was to save money on fuel and repairs in the long run... with that we opted for the Prius C1.... we got rid of another fully loaded car Hyundai XG350 L with leather and faux wood and all the bells...

We now have a smudge | stain in the rear seat, not sure how it going there unless it was during the last road trip and putting things in and out... The C1's seats seem so delicate and as if the slightest chemical or cleaning agent placed on them will leave a watermark or stain... I know this thread is for a seat in I think a C2 or C3 but any suggestions for the C1 seats?

..... wondering if I should have got the C4.....
