Thanks for the info Bob! Still have 7miles till empty =) Hoping I have a scan tool tomorrow to check fuel levels and fill the gas can as well. I know it sounds dumb, but I am having fun with it.
Done. This was my biggest variance so far 601.3 Miles Calculated MPG: 55.8 Displayed MPG: 59.3 Miles: 601.3 Gallons: 10.776 Price: $3.810/Gallon
Congrats. Your fuel up continues to support the 10x displayed as a reasonable estimate of when to fill up. It would suggest that at ~ 592 miles you would need 10.5 gallons of gasoline. The extra 9 miles would consume about 0.2 gallons, which would leave you estimating that you would need 10.7 gallons. You used 10.8 gallons. Pretty darn close to the theoretical estimate.
I have the Scan Gauge II in now and this tank I think will be lower. Waiting to see what my final numbers are.
how many miles did you go after DTE was zero? my current tank is averaging 60.5mpg and i already have 500 miles. Might try to go for 600 too
Assuming you had a complete fill up when you started this tank and that you maintain your 60.5 mpg, I expect you would hit 600 miles and only fill up with 10.4 gallons of gasoline.
I was doing so good but my wife forced me fuel up lol! I told her I wanted to join the 600 mile club and she looked at me like i was crazy hehehe This is what i got: Oh and when i went to the gas station I was only able to fill up 9.6 gallons?? That means i could have passed 600 easily I only went 10-15 miles after my DTE showed zero
Yes, but how can you know how much you have left? It's better to use 11.5. My Scangauge at a full tank says 11.5 Gallons. Are you willing to risk it? =)
You can use a quick formula (see my post #29 above) of 10x displayed Cons. will equal how far you can go using 10.5 gallons of gas (leaving ~1.4 gallons in reserve). 10 x 60.2 = 602 miles/10.5 gallons = 57.3 mpg (calculated). You got 551.8 miles/9.6 gallons = 57.5 mpg (calculated). Yes, you would have hit 600 miles easy. Next time you have the Cons = 60 or better you'll know you can drive 600 miles on that tank.
