quick question about wheel locks. i have wheel locks for my prius c3 with steel wheels. i brought my car into service last week and they told me my car had the "wrong wheel locks" - they said the wheel locks for my car were for alloy wheels, and not steel wheels. they said it caused a rattling on my car and said i needed to get the right ones. i called the dealership that i originally bought my car from and they told me toyota didn't make a wheel lock for steeel wheels for the prius c. but the dealership that serviced my car said there was. (not sure if they were referring to a regular prius instead of a prius c). any body know the official story on this?
Why do you need wheel locks for steel wheels? The tires won't fit to many other cars if stolen and don't cost alot.
A wheel lock is a wheel lock is a wheel lock... I believe. Have you noticed any rattling? If not, I would recommend not ever going back to this dealer... who knows what else they might be wanting to grab money off of.
Lug nuts for steel wheels and alloys are different. The first have an "acorn" shaped contact surface with the wheel while the ones for alloys have a flat contact surface.
But the acorns won't have a problem on flat wheels. The flats won't be as snug as the acorns, but it won't create a rattling noise... unless you don't have them tight.
