I just finished upgrading the front door speaker to my newly purchased used 2010 Prius. I read many different solutions from Prius owners and most of them upgrade with a 6.5 round speaker. I opted to go with Infinity Reference 6x9's. I figured to use the same bracket the holds the OEM 6x9 speaker. I like Infinity speakers for their high efficiency at 94db and found them cheap on Amazon for $55 including free shipping. You can't beat that. All I did was dremel out the old speaker from the bracket that is riveted in the door and put in the Infinity's. It fits great. No need to drill out the rivets to take out the bracket like most people have done and make shift a bracket to install a 6.5 round speaker. The sound is fantastic. I could not be happier with the sound improvement. The bass and treble are crystal clear. I am debating on replacing the rear speakers as I don't think it will make that much of a difference; however, I probably will add an Alpine amp I have laying around and if I do that, I will probably upgrade the rear speakers but for now, the sound is great and I can pump up the volume with no distortion. I will be adding fog lights and Rosen Navigation system shortly. I really like the 17 OEM rims and would upgrade to them but do not want to suffer from lower mpg so for now, I'm good. The only other upgrade I've done is tinted windows.

I was thinking about doing the same upgrade. Did you get the Infinity 9632cf (2way) or the 9633cf (3way)? Did the magnet barely clear the door? Thanks!

Thanks for sharing! I have same questions as spool.. what model? Also what volume did you "pump" it up to? 30+? 20+? thanks!

BTW, mpg with 17's aren't so bad.. see my Fuelly data. Well worth the sacrifice.

I went with 9632 6x9 speakers for the front doors and just purchased the 6032cf 6.5 speakers for the rear doors. I have not installed the rear door speakers yet but should be no problem. No problems with the magnets clearing the door in the front door install.

Thanks! I just installed one side of the infinity 9633 6x9 front speaker and everything fit perfectly. Window closes fine, plenty of space between the doors and does not budge out of the plastic door. I trimmed some of the factory mount to make it fit. I purchased the metra toyota speaker adapter for an easy install but looking back at it now, I could of easily used the old harness since I'm using the factory bracket. I ran out of time and will probably finish the other side this weekend.

If you are replacing the speakers you should be doing it with a set of separates or it probably won't sound any better than what you have.

when you say separates I assume you mean a separate woofer for the door and tweeter for the dash?

I was thinking this which is why I was confused that everyone is using these 2-way speakers.

I took mine to a shop to have an amp, 360.3 eq, all new door speakers, and a sub put in and they left the factory tweeters in told me that they are actually decent (I even told them I would be willing to replace them) when tuned right. Hopefully that helps you

If they didn't use a crossover, it was done incorrectly. That is the whole Idea of separates, they complement each other at the appropriate frequencies. I would say spend the most amount of money that you can afford on the front separates, Its what does most of the work.

So now you have a full range speaker in the door and a high passed midrange/tweeter in the dash. I bet that car sounds bright as all hell and male vocals are really low in the soundstage.

How are they powering the dash speakers?

Everything sounds great (although now im considering another 12 and deviating from the factory head unit ill have to take it back in and see what they say)

I believe the Rockford R600X5 powers everything. I posted a thread on with some pictures here in this subforum with a little bit more info like product wise.

EDIT: by the way sorry OP I didn't mean to hijack.

Are these the same as the Infinity REF9602IX 2-ways that Best Buy has on clearance for $109? (I guess BB charges more for the boxed speakers with grilles). I just bought a 2010 II and really miss the Infinities in my old car. I mostly use my smartphone NAV and Pandora.

About how much of the rubber on the existing speaker housings needs to be trimmed down to get them to fit within the door grille?

What's the consensus on whether to keep or detach the dash tweeters? If you keep them do you then turn the treble on the 3-ways down to compensate? I'd imagine getting 2-ways and keeping the dash tweeters working wouldn't be best since the 2-ways don't have distinct mid-ranges.

I've read the Infinities are 2-ohm and the install man at BB said they weren't good for me for that reason but I guess if they work that's fine.

EDIT- I went ahead and got the Infinity 9633 3 ways; just $65 shipped off Amazon. My mechanic installed them today using the plastic mount of the stock speakers. Clean install, no interference with windows, no interference with the door grill. Kept the dash tweeters active. The stock speakers were like $1.99 ones- everyone at the shop laughed at them. The difference in sound is astounding. I may have to turn the treble down a little but the speakers allow -3 treble adjustment. Very clear wonderful sound.

My experience with my last car and this one is that replacing the front speakers with 3 way Infinity's makes more sound difference than any other installation.

i been looking to upgrading my stock front door speakers but not sure which one I should get? Infinity 9633 or 9632, don't know much about audio but just planning on doing a simple swap from stock to aftermarket using the stock HU. Thanks.

Be advised that on the 2010-2011s, the front "squawker" robs the highs with a bass blocker. Kind of a cheap cross-over. May be the same on subsequent models as well. See Spiderman's Sticky.

Use two-way or three-way component speakers with cross-overs and wiring mods. If the squawker is left in place, wiring is unchanged and a coax or triax unit is used in the door, you are buying more speaker the the freqs will get. It only gets the lower freqs (do not remember the cut-off). Anything sounds better than stock speakers, just don't waste money on fancy if you do not delete the squawker or replace with a component. Also, coax and triax speakers alone in the door do not present a good stage with the squawker deleted.

If you are going to spend the money, my advice is go with the components up front as stated. Coax in the back is enough. I am speaking from experience and just trying to pass on what I learned with mine. The choice is yours.

to be honest all i plan to do is buy a pair of speakers for 50.00 and do a simple swap without removing the squawkers, i just want something better than the stock $2 speaker.

That's a good price- I paid $65 a couple weeks ago on Amazon.
