I currently have a 2010 Prius. I have put 90K miles on it now and have heavily customized it with aftermarket speakers, Amps and and have run several aftermarket navigation units in it over the past 4 years.. I am considering replacing it with the 2013 model Prius but noticed that the base model now comes with an "touchscreen electronics interface" Does this mean you can no longer remove the radio and install your choice of infotainment 2din Unit? does anyone know what kind of information is displayed on the the factory screen?
It looks like all of the GulfStates Toyota level 3's have the Nav module as well. I'll be removing that too. Is there anything I need to be aware of?
I can't speak to the level 3 models as you mentioned base model in your original post. I only have a 2013 II. I would imagine that it'd all be the same though.
Thanks all for your input. I'm also looking at the Camry Hybrid if anyone has anything to say about it. Particularly removing the in dash center display and installing an aftermarket navigation unit.
The 2012 uses the radio touch screen to turn on/off some car options (ie smart key, etc). Can you still do that with the aftermarket units ?
No, you can't do that with aftermarket units. but I believe you can make most of those changes via a scan gauge or keyfob lock-unlock combination. I also never had nor missed those features in my 2010
Does anyone have specific radio/nav units that they put in and would recommend? I would like to be able to use my steering wheel controls, and it would be nice, but I doubt possible to use the factory USB port in the center console. I am looking to possibly upgrade the radio relatively soon. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I'd love to hear/see what everyone has done. If there is a thread that goes over that could someone point me in the right direction... this forum is kind of hard to get used to navigating. Thanks
You could try a Rosen aftermarket dash. I believe they are suppose to retain all factory function, not 100% sure though you should check with an audio place or some google fu EDIT: Never looked up the reviews or anything, just offering a suggestion. I opted to keep the factory head unit myself.
That is one of the ones that I had seen... However, if you do a little google research it gets horrible reviews just about everywhere I read them. This one looks amazing... but its $1500 plus $200 for the dash kit, Sirius tuner, and iPod cable. Way more than I can justify spending. Alpine INE-Z928HD Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com
Rosen is just OEM look designed, overpriced, 250$ chinese HU. Alpine is a nice unit with big display, but quite slow startup sequence. The dash kit don't fit European car specification - we have additional control panel for HUD in place of time control buttons.
